At first I want to apologize myself for my poor Englisch talking/typing, I'm
Dutch.

Hello,

I have a question about the game Need for Speed: High Stakes. I liked the
game very much but the past few months I didn't play it very often. But now
I have a computer-network installed, I liked to download some add-on cars
from several internet-sites to give the game a slight variation in cars.
Before I wanted to play it over our network, I had NFS HS installed on
another computer. I already had tried to install some add-on cars on that
computer but I kept an "Exception Access Violation"-error after installing
the most of that cars. I continued to try out other cars and I managed to
get about 25 cars to work but I had much more non-working cars, who had been
downloaded succesfully. At that time I was satisfied with the amount of cars
and I thought the error might be a hardware failure.
But now I have installed NFS with the addon cars on a completly diferent
system I keep the stup*d error. I also have discovered that one or two cars
work on this computer that do not work on the other and there are one or two
cars that do not work on this computer but did work on the other.

If there is someone who could give me some advice about solving the problem
or would say that it are faults in the downloaded cars or something else, I
would appreciate that very much.

btw I've already tried to download the cars again from another server. And
I've changed all the serialnumbers to be sure that there would be no doubble
serialnumber. AND my neighbour often gets the same error.

This is what I get to see on my screen:
--------------------
Abort message:

Exception caught!
EXCEPTION_ACCES_VIOLATION: read attempted @0xFFFFFFFF
CS=000000015F.................
--------------------
Looks like a memoryfailure to me.

I hope I'll get some answers to my questions.

With regards,

Kim Jansen

You can only have up to 52 cars in your data\cars folder at 1 time. It might
be a little less.

Also, with the 4.xx patches, it makes it harder for you to use MOD cars.
This is because of the problems they cause on the EA server.

you are correct in assuming that the problem is the cars - I have 50
installed and several that will crash the game are off in another
folder. I don't have any cars that will run on one of my systems and
not the other, but my two PC's are pretty much clones of each other.
If you are interested in another car I have Lara's Croftraider IV at
http://www.smokeypoint.com/3dfx.htm it is a very fast sports car.

the serial number of the car is the largest crasher of the NFS4, another
is the \NeedForSpeedHighStakes\3dSetup has to be correct for your video
card. or you can almost get the same type of error - but that'll be
with any combonation of cars. How many cheats have you installed ? you
might of installed a bad cheat .exe. What kind of video card do you
have ? So those numbers mean an access to a protected memory location
not that you have any bad mem sticks. you probably already knew this.

Hope this helps,
