Is MK4 the sequel to MK3 or the prequel to MK1?

One site says that MK4 happens before MK1. It shouldn't be like that.
Anyway, I'm confused.

hehe this site made me laugh. They do a good job of taking FE photos (which
is kool, and is understood), but taking there MK symbol and puting it over
the FE Symbol (which is not kool). So we'll put up more pics, and any one
can save image on them, cause that's what the pics are for. But the FE
symbol we'll be there again. Just make sure when you cover it up it fits
the symbol, KOK. hahahahah

It is indeed a seque. The prequel is actually the upcoming game Mortal
Kombat Mythologies being released for Playstation and N64. From what I
understand, you'll have to beat Mythologies to answer questions raised
by the ending of MK4, and vice versa. As for Shinnock being in control
in MK4, not too sure about that. Since he's obviously playable, I
would tend to rule out the fact that he would be a boss in MK4.

Uh oh, other people have responded already. I'll respond anyways.
MK4 is the sequal to MK3, MK Mytholigies: Subzero happens before MK1.

It's the sequel to MK3. You see, Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero
is the one that takes place before MK1. The two are totally different
games. :)
