Today my kids reminded me of Neverhood which we played several years
ago. They finished it, but I never did. So I found the CD and loaded
it on my Windows XP computer. I no longer have a Win 95 PC. It
loaded fine but when the game actually starts to run it has a very
annoying flicker that progresses down the screen in little boxes
around the moving figures or props on the screen. I tried setting the
properties of the Neverhood shortcut to Win95 compatibility mode and
256 colors but still get the flicker.

Any suggestions?

I suppose I could load Win95 on an old PC I still have gathering dust
in the basement.

I had printed out a help page from the now defunct website and kept it with
my notes.
This is quoted directly from that page:

"Your ultimate solution for this problem is to get some new drivers for the
video card in your system. Since this usually involves getting help from
your video card manufacturer we have a quick fix for you to try right now!
Follow the directions below:
1) Go to "Control Panel"
2) Find the "System" icon and double click.
3) Click on "System Properties" and select the "Performance" tab.
4) Under "Advanced Settings" click the "Graphics" button. You will see the
"Advanced Graphics Setting" window.
5) On it you will see the "Hardware Acceleration" slider. It should be at
the far right hand position labeled "Full".
6) Move the slider one notch to the left toward "None" and hit the "OK"
button.

If this does not help, try moving the slider closer and closer toward "None"
until it does work. When you get new drivers for your video card, don't
forget to set your hardware acceleration back where it was."

I would add that if this does not work, the game just might be too old for
your system and I'd go with your suggestion of using the old PC.
Hope it works for you! Feel free to ask any questions for getting un-stuck
in the game. I've played about 4 times and taken many notes. I won't solve
things for you - just give you a nudge in the right direction.
