I have read that a lot of people have problems trying to programme the FMC.

One problem that I am trying to solve is regarding the import of Flight
Plans . Having created a FP in FSX I then try to import it into the FMC
using the two airport codes, an eight digit combination of the two airports
codes. This is as described in the 767 FMC manual. I am presuming all
Boeing FMC's are the same. Anyway the code is not recognized by Ifly FMC.

Running FSX SP2 with iFly 747 SP3

Anyone any ideas?

Not the same, you cannot import f/plans into ifly's FMC. You have to
make'em yourself into it.
You can in PMDG, PSS, LevD and some other planes only.

Thanks for that! I was coming to the same conclusion myself. I wonder if
you know of a good tutorial for setting up the FMC as applied to the iFly
version.

I downloaded it from iFLY Developer Team, 330 pages, revision Nr8,
Nov.23th,2005.
It is complete and VERY good.

You CAN import FS9 flight plans into the iFly 747. Go to AVSIM file
libarary and search for:

convertpln.zip

It's in the FSX section, but works just as well in FS9

I have your tool Martin. I unzipped and have the contents in a folder.

Please excuse my ignorance but I am a bit confused about the further
instructions. Would you be so kind as to explain in very simple step by
step how to arrange the programme in the iFly folder.

Did you notice from the description that you need FS
Navigatorinstalled to make this work? I sort of forfgot to mention
that! If you do, I'll post back instructions. If not, I am afraid I
don't think this is going to work for you.

Is iFly not Freeware and thus probably quite inaccurate to what is
modelled compared to PMDG?

It's not as detailed as the PMDG of course, but the modelling is
amazing for freeware - working CDU and all.

The only problem I have is that the 2D panel can rather kill frame
rates. Despite advice online about editing some of the panel bitmaps
I've never really been able to correct that.

PMDG make such great a/c - but it's not just the fps they kill. I have
an LCD window on my PC showing system resources used. When I load a
PMDG a/c, up to 80% of the resources are gone before I even take off.
This isn't the case of course with all payware aircarft - I have the
PSS Concorde, which is just as detailed as PMDG planes (no CDU of
course), but at the start of a flight I have at least 20% more
resources free than when flying say a PMDG 737.

Often this doesn't matter, as resources aren't the same thing as frame
rates: you only notice when there is a sudden out-of-memory error and
FS9 closes. I never get that unless flying a resuorce-hungry payware
a/c. I have learned never to fly PMDG a/c into 'high density' airports
(loke my Aerosoft Mega Heathrow, becuase FS9 will just close down.
With my PSS a/c this is never a problem. Pity PMDG planes are just so
gorgeous!
