It's time for a new FSX platform in order to get back into Simming.
The Wkstn 670 was built in Aug 2005 and re-built (RAM, CPUs and
later video board) in Dec 2008 and again in 2009 running Xp.

That system is too slow for an enjoyable experience. I'd like to find
something that PERFORMS and is energy efficient... no more 500-600
Watt sim flights that heat the room! and no more 256MB video boards,
maybe 2GB!

Let's talk FSX P3D platform at a good price/pref ratio and be energy
conscious. Have any of you simmer guru's opened PC business?

p.s. did I mention energy/HEAT was a problem with the 670?

Performance = speed. Speed =overclocking. Overclocking = heat. Plus the new
video cards are excellent heat pumps.

The new Haswell (4770) cpu runs hot so I'd go with a 3770. The GTX 480 is a
very hot card - 580 a little better - 680 better yet. Forget 780 as it would
be no benefit with the 3770. With the clocking and the gpu you are looking
at 750W PSU. You could run a lower capacity PSU but then you'd be running it
at max and that would generate more heat. Go with SSD's and that will reduce
the heat from the drives.

Go here for a custom built to your specs, FSX designed computer by FSX
specialists, all programs and addons pre-installed and flight tested,
delivered ready to fly out of the box. Or you can spend 449 days trying to
build it yourself. <g>

Who cares?... I run mine 24/7 and I doubt it costs more than $5 bucks
a month.

Yeah, but you're not a Greenie, though. Probably eat unhealthy food,
too. <g>

I had Vic select my components from that web site for me. I don't think
you will be able to get one with any Scuzzie ports, though. You'll just have
to ditch those old boat anchor Scuzzie drives. Those new SSD drives will run
a lot cooler.<g>

Vic who?

:)

Seriously though if you don't want to do it yourself, Jetline is a good way
to go. Straight up people with reasonable pricing.

Unless you pay peanuts for your energy (which is possible seeing how
much gets wasted over there!) you may be pleasantly surprised/horrified.

Well, you're right... it's not insignificant... $45.79 / month.
