I installed the X-Plane demo and finished...demo-ing the program and want it
off my hard drive. I see NO uninstaller and no listing of the program in
C-Cleaner or Revo Uninstaller. It is as simple as removing the folders?

Hi Danny

From memory X-plane doesn't make any Registry entries in Windows, so yes
just delete the folders. (Check with the X-plane website first, tho' - I
think there is a note about de-installing X-plane 9; X-plane 10 may be
different)

Okay. I'll send 'em to the recycle bin.

I just deleted the folders from my desktop Danny. Even at max
resolution and all graphical settings turned to max I thought it
looked rubbish compared to how I have FSX looking. The 747 sounded
like a silly formula 1 race car skidding about as you adjusted rudder
slightly to keep it centre

I essentially deleted the folders, too, Ibby. I did run a couple of registry
cleaners after that and emptied the 'cycle bin. All seems okay. Need to
defrag too. I also uninstalled 'TAKE ON HELICOPTERS'. It has some neat
features but the helicopters fly like arcade game toys to me. Not so
impressed with it.

Regarding X-Plane, I was not overly impressed after the initial amazement
wore off. I fully agree that FSX looks far better and the sounds are far
better. As to the reports the 'X-Plane's airplanes respond more like the
real thing'... while that might be a legitimate attribute, it is not one to
which I give a lot of weight. I am a sim pilot and will never have my real
pilots license. So whether X-Plane is more real than FSX is not material to
the criteria I use to decided which sim I ENJOY the most.

Eye-candy is pretty high on my list and XPlane has little in the demo to
sell me. I rarely do those 31,000 foot flights. I am more prone to the
1,000 foot helicopter (okay, boB, 500 AGL many times) or certainly 5,000 and
below. So I want good looking ground, mountains, trees, shorelines, etc.
I found that FSX gives me that and then some. I did not find that in the
DEMO of X-Plane. It has a loyal, almost cult like following which means
they have found something in x-plane that I did not find. It might be
there...I just did not see it in the DEMO.

The one thing I can say, they are continuing to develop X-plane. Not so with
Microsoft and its sims. I am certain it will continue to improve.

Hi Danny

Thanks for the heads-up, useful.

That's down to us; you; me and the rest of the flight sim community.
With FSX we are free to carry on developing MSFS as we wish it to be.
The FSX SDK is available; all the tools needed are free, mature and easy
to use. Sure there are some wrinkles in FSX, but we can live with them -
we have done for the last five years and they ain't going to get any
worse. So let's get stuck in and start extending it. There is plenty of
room for new 'planes; sceneries and traffic plans.

Best wishes

Osbert (etc, etc)

Microsoft is getting ready to start beta testing MS Flight.

Nor do I Danny. I flew the X Plane 747 on a circuit and it didn't feel
any different from PMDG's model to me.

The saying "the altitude below you is not your friend" only applies to
the real thing. In the sim I have climbed much higher than in real life.

Although I have to admit I took an OH58A model to 14,000" MSL near Ft
Knox KY once. Never did it again. :)
