Downloaded yesterday, looks amazing and my frame rates are still good so
might be time to totally go over to FSX!

Only downside for me is my favorite aircraft PSS Dash 8 won't run in FSX and
the website has finally gone so no take over as promised. The most worrying
thing for me is that if ever I lose it in FS9 I cannot ever install it again
as the installer tries to connect to the PSS server which no longer exists
now the company has folded, so the installer won't run, bit annoying when I
have paid good money for the product!

Yes got the patch.

I've also recently got FS Global 2010 and with this, GEX Europe, UTX
Europe and REX it looks fantastic. I was flying all round the
highlands of Scotland last night really enjoying it as I haven't been
on FSX much (or this forum) lately.

I found a fantastic utility yesterday also which creates adaptive
lighting - it creates a bloom effect without the fps hit and looks
amazing.
NickN says he uses it all the time. Its called EMBserie_for_MSFS and
here is a forum for it http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=248307
there link to a video showing what it does. The whole landscape and
sky just looks so realistic. It simply consists of a dll file and a
ini file which go into your main FSX folder. The default settings
aren't to everyones pleasing but John of OBXY has his recommended
settings listed on one of the pages of the forum which I have applied
to the ini and its great. You can flick between off/on by pressing
Shirt and F12 and FSX just looks so washed out with it off. I think I
will post this as a new post as it is very good.

All PMDG aircraft have to be validated so wonder who that works if
same happened to them and what becomes of FSX as its similar?

We discuss something like that a few years ago.. video dynamic range
processing. The intensity range of 8-bit grey scale is 2^8 or 256 levels
which is 10* LOG (256) = 24dB. However the dynamic (intensity) range
of the human eye is much higher, some 90dB and hearing, 100dB.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_range

Our LCD monitors have a range of 2000:1 and 8000:1 which is 33dB
and 39db respectively. So there's room for an expansion of the
`intensity range there in itself. The use of a transfer function, a
dynamic expander.. can exaggerate the 256-level intensity range to make
FSX look more like the `real outdoors. I use such a filter in PSP9 all
the time, called Midtone expansion/compression, for post-processing
MSFS screen caps.

Glad to see someone has grasped and implemented this concept.

I did notice a few `steps as the intensity would suddenly shift. A
minor issue which can be tolerated and eventually worked out.

Also I liked the contemporary soundtrack of the video. Forget all that
satanic screaming!! :-}

I watched the full video after posting this Gregory and I part of the
later part of the video he appears to switch it continually on/off to
let you see the difference with and without it. It can be fully
tweaked though just via editing the ini file and perhaps a bit awkward
but I think it looks great, you now get shadows etc on the ground,
brillant when flying through valleys and mountain ranges
