I received a gift card from my work , for my 30 year anniversary last month,
so I used part of it today to pull the trigger on the remaining components I
need for my new I7 920 / X58 chipset build. I have been slowly buying the
components for the last three months. Now I will have everything I need. I
am pretty much replacing just about everything but the case. Got a new 1tb
hard drive coming as well, I will move the old hard drives over and use them
for storage, should give me a total of about 2tb hard drive space.
Have couple of other items I still want to get, but they won't hold up the
build.
So I will finally be able to join some of you other guys with new builds,
really looking forward to it. I probably won't start it till I am on
vacation the last half of December, so I still get a little time of
anticipation.
Oh, and as far as Windows 7, after much debate in my own mind, I finally
settled on getting Windows 7 Home Premium full retail version.
Looking forward to getting some good FSX time logged with the new build!

You are either verry patient, or quite slow ;o)
I'd hate to have brand new gadget just laying arround collecting dust :o/
I still recall my own last build, the video card was two days late, and by
the time it arrived I was already running every thing else on an old GeForce
9400 card, stripped from my media center :o)

Lol, I can be very patient, but not necessarily slow. Once I get started I
will have it up and running fairly quickly.
I have been patiently buying the components over the last three months
though - had other things that came up and required money as well, so had to
kind of spread it out. Actually in reality I have been waiting most of the
year, I wanted to do this build early in the year but some of those other
things were more pressing and just had to take care of those first - some
new furniture for new home, lawn equipment, etc.
I prefer to wait for my remaining vacation days to start assembly though, as
I want to be able to devote plenty of time to the build and installing
everything again, and then some good flight simming time.

Ah, yes, worked like mad the week before buying the new hardware, to make
sure I had a clean desk, and took an extended weekend, shopping Thursday
after work, spending all friday dissasembling the old rig and fitting all
the new gadgets, still swearing over that missing video card, and then that
first boot, with shaking hands and witheld breath :o)
Spending the better parts of the night reading the manual, and explorring
the new BIOS settings, with all those new unexplained settings, having the
laptop next to for looking up what the heck it all was meant to do, and what
to do about it, installing Windos Saturday and downloading all the updates.
Man, was I not fresh and fit for work when I returned Tuesday ;o)
I still haven't figured out all the BIOS settings, but most things are
working as supposed. Maybe when I'm done setting up all the FS addons I'll
start fiddeling with the tweaking potentials, or maybe I'll just leave it
for now, I am after all getting nice frame rates with the current settings
:o)

That all sounds horribly familiar, mate. :-))
Personally, I've ended up firmly in the "maybe I'll just leave it for
now" camp... :-))

Yeah, if it aint broke etc. ;o)
But it has something called AI-Tweak, which suposedly is overclocking for
dummies, but I must be a real dummie, because I can't figure out what half
the settings does or are supposed to do :o/
I'm fairly sattisfyed by having the capabillity of FR's in the 60's, with
peaks at 100, but it would be better if they stayed above 10 when hitting
cloud layers :o/

OMG! Sorry Tommy, your credibility has evaporated. NOBODY reads the
manual... Well, Mx & Varmit maybe...... :)

When every thing else has failed I do ;o)
I have even spend time on some of the lessons in FS9, to figure out what VOR
is all about :o/
Oh no, now you'll never talk to me again :o/
