Gentlemen

Is there an easy way to switch between profiles in FSUIPC?

I had a perfectly good (Free Flight) profile set up for FSX's stock Cessna 172 Skyhawk but found that it didn't work for the Cessna in the Learning Centre modules. So I set up another profile for the Cessna in those modules.

Now FSUIPC will only recognise the Learning Centre profile for the stock (Free Flight) Cessna.

How do I tell FSUIPC to apply my original profile?

Thanks

Hi GB,

Oi, mate - who are you calling a gentleman?!

I resemble that remark! :-))

Sorry I can't help with your issue, though.

OK, so I deleted the unwanted profile from the FSUIPC.INI file. And now FSUIPC has rematched my Cessna with the original profile.

But what an arse-about-face way of switching profiles. There must be a better way, surely.

When you created the second profile did you select "New" and give it a
different name from the default C172? If so, you should have different
profiles in the FSUIPC.ini file for each plane. If you only have one then
you just modified the original profile. I have had that problem where I had
to delete the profile in the ini file an start over. If you want two
different profiles for the same type of plane you have give each profile a
different name.

Ok, so I went to the Learning Center to check it out for myself. In that
first lesson that is the default C172. You don't need to create a new
profile to make it work. It is probably a different livery than the one you
had set up in FSUIPC. You have to tell FSUIPC that this one uses the same
profile as the first one. You do this by putting a tic in the Profile
Specific box. Then a window will open showing a list of the names of the
profiles you have created. Click on the name of the profile you used when
you created the first C172 profile. Click OK and exit back to he flight. Now
the new livery will work just like the first one. You can go back to that
lesson in the Learning Center and fly it with that plane. You have to do
this in FSUIPC every time you change the livery on planes that have more
than one.

Thanks Sam. In all the welter of FSUIPC instructions out there, this does not seem to have been said as simply and succinctly as you have.

I owe you.

I've learned most of what I know about FSUIPC by hands-on use. With my
20/200 vision, I can't read the manual. The more I use it the more I begin
to understand how the program works. You will probably get to know it better
as use it. If you have any more problems just post them here. Have fun.<g>

.

FSUIPC can be really powerful if you just plan ahead. Depending on how many
different a/c you fly you might want to do something like I did.

I created a bunch of profiles:

Single Prop
Single Turbo
Single Jet
Multi Prop
Multi Turbo
Multi Jet
Single Water
Multi Water

and a few specific for the B-17, 727, etc

This allows me to configure my yoke and Throttle quadrant switches to
aircraft specific functions, like water rudder, wing floats, etc.

When I get a new a/c OR ( as Sam pointed out) a new livery - I just tick a/c
specific and pick my profile.

You can also create a new profile by copying an old one and making a few
changes.

Once you get the hang of it, FSUIPC is a breeze.

As far as what do to when you have an a/c in a profile you do not want - go
to the FSUIPC.INI file and locate the specific profile - first listed will
be the a/c that use it - delete the a/c and you can then just copy the name
to the desired profile. No need to delete or recreate the entire profile.

That sounds like a good way to do it Vic but how do you remember what
all the switches, buttons and doo dah's on your yoke/stick do? Your
memory must be much better than mine.

On my setup I only have 2 or 3 button/switches and one axis that vary
from plane to plane. Most of the others are global for all planes. I have
no problem remembering what those are. On some planes those Button/switches
have to be programmed to different hot keys even when doing the same thing
on both planes. One plane might have the GPS popup on Shift+3 while another
has it on Shift+2. That's where FSUIPC really shines. Then you can also have
custom axis slopes on each plane as needed. The possibilities are limitless.
It a whole new world in simming.

Thanks Vic. A very tidy solution to a potentially disaffecting problem with FSUIPC. I like what you suggest!
