Well I could contain myself no longer. Friday I purchased from
Flightsimstore, Orbx's Central Rockies and downloaded it immediately. Could
not wait for any DVD. Astounding to say the least. One of the first places
I had to check out was Mile Hi, I97D, a very sloped runway. Cabin Creek is
another good strip although not nearly as difficult as Mile Hi.

SammyBo. Do you Central Rockies, yet? If so, get you a Super Cub or Cessna
172 and try it out.

Yep, I made it out in my little sierra. I didn't cheat, though. I did
it in the snow.
I haven't tried a landing yet. J just flew down that beautiful valley for
about 20 minutes. I'll try it tomorrow with my little Scout tundra. Did you
ever try that Bear Creek Aviation strip?

Hi Danny,
I love the ORBYX Central Rockies, as this is the area that I live in.
Check out the windfarm outside of Mountain Home, ID. Take off from Mountain
Home Muni (U76) using runway 10 and fly about 15 miles east notheast. Also,
If you take off from U76 using runway 28 and fly the runway heading for
about 7 miles, you will see two huge volcanic craters in the desert floor. I
have actually hiked down into these craters. Pretty spectacular. There is
also another windarm due west of Bliss, Idho that is pretty fun to fly
around. Take care.

I had seen them in some of the company's screenshots. Did not know where to
look. I will check it out, Randy.

Using Skyvector.com, I see WA38 as South Cove Heliport but neither WA38 nor
South Cove shows in my FSX sim.

I just remember, Sam. You are talking about Bear Gulch Aviation. That is
part of Orbx's, Cushman Meadows. I have that but did not install it on the
Laptop I purchased in August.

Here is a video of my landing there, back in May 2011. The Landing was
okay...that roll out across the bridge was pretty scary and very sloppy.

http://youtu.be/sYd_kJp4JZc?hd=1

That strip originally appeared with Emma Field Flying Club back in FS9 days.
It was okay then, but Orbx did a great job with it, too. I tried Emma Field
in FSX but stuff just did not align well so I took it out.

Wow. Is my memory rusty. After watching this video, things are becoming
more familiar again.
Here is a video from Bill Womack talking about Emma Field X and mentions
Bear Gulch which was part of the Real Air Scout package. That is where I
got Bear Gulch in FS9.

In FSX, I get Chinook Farms, WA37, no WA38, then Woodfield, WA39.
However, next is Bear Canyon West Field, WA41. Sameo sameo??
Not seeing Bear Gulch by name anywhere...

WA41 lies about halfway between Olympia and Mt. St. Helens. Take off,
turn s/e, and you'll see Mt. Adams and Mt St. Helens in the distance.
Here's an early morning flight, summertime, with MegaSceneryEarth.

Yep, that's it. That's what a senior citizen gets for relying on
his(none) memory. Bear Gulch! Right. I got it from the same source as you.
The Scout package. You were the one that steered me to that product. I flew
that strip in the Scout Tundra when I first installed it and was awe struck
by it. I saved it as a flight and still load it and fly it now and then.
I've never failed to make it both ways so far. The surface of that strip is
too rough for anything but a tail-dragger if you want to keep it realistic.
I'm going to try the Scout tundra on that I 97D you posted on.

Well, I had to give up on that I97D. I could get my J3 tundra off easy
before I even reached the first big dip. I just couldn't locate the strip
again after I went out and turned around. I have a problem locating a well
defined strip with my vision but a snow covered one on the side of a snow
covered mountain is just too much for me. If I were flying a 737 I guess I
could just program it to autopland.<g>

It shows up on the GPS. Keep the GPS open and zoomed into 1.5 or 3 miles.
It is tough to see in any season. I have tried Winter and Summer.

Well, this afternoon I hopped in the C-206, was feelin frisky, so
checked out Mile Hi. Now I feel dead !! That's a friggin ski jump!!
First thought I'd taxi down to see what was at the end of the hill,
brakes wouldn't even hold and ended up over the hill in the snow.
Restart, and don't have to tell you how the next episode ended. :(

Lacking a SuperCub, I thought about trying the Maule, but then just gave
up and went to Lemhi Co., followed the river/road down to Challis to
sooth my fractured afternoon.. :)

It is insanity to try that strip in anything but a tail-dragger. I can
get my A2A Cub tundra airborne before the first dip but I never can find the
strip after I turn around for the landing. I'm sure I could land it of I
can ever find my way back in. I finally gave up and sat it down on that
frozen stream in the valley.

Sam, that frozen stream is Snake River. Remember when Evil Knievel
reportedly had plans to 'JUMP' the Snake River.

I suggest you bring up your GPS a few miles away from I97D. Put Direct I97D
into GPS, press enter and see the magenta line leading you right to it!

If you do get it down, keep the power up or you will get stuck on that steep
hill.

They didn't put that little popup GPS in my A2A Cub but they did have an
empty window in their panel, cfg file. I copied the one in the default J3 and
pasted it in the empty A2A window so now now I can get it up with Shift+2
when I need it. I don't know if I'm going to have enough vision to put any
thing in it, though. I'll click around on it and see what I can find.

My little 65hp A2A J3 Cub could hardly be called muscle bound. It just
has a slow stall speed and doesn't have a nose wheel plowing snow in front
of me. I hold the brakes on at full throttle and get the tail up before I
release them. It just leaps up into the air in just a real short run.

OK youz guyz, look out for more traffic in the boonie patterns. Just
downloaded the SurClaro SuperCub. Hadn't heard of these guys, but they
have a fantastic selection, and the models look great. SuperCub has a
very nice selection of panels, configurations, etc., but it'll be
tomorrow before I get a chance to play with it - errrrr - evaluate it...

You better adjust the brake_scalar on that Maule. She goes rolling, rolling,
rolling, rawhide! Yee Haw.
Needs better braking action than the default Maule allows. That Flight
Replica's Super Cub I used has a 210 HP engine so it gets around pretty
well.

There is a free ware on Flightsim titled PA18_V3. Made for FS9 but works
okay in FS10. There is a gauge fix there as well. Search PA18, or try this
link. http://flightsim.com/kdl.php?fid=124574

The default Piper Cub handles it okay.

I used to land my BT-15 in a small pasture behind a drive-in and walk in
for a hamburger. Later somebody put a fence right across the middle of it
and then I landed in half of it. It was tight but I could still get it in
with full flaps and out with the tail-up method.
