Hey.

I know that the i7 are faster than i5, but how much better and faster are
the i7. Is it worth the extra cash?.

Im mainly interested in this from a FSX perspective.

Any comments appreciated.

Personally, I would go with the i7, and an LGA1366 version, not
the LGA1156 version. The difference between the i5 750 and the
i7 920 is less than $100, and the difference in performance is worth
that. If you're building a new system, the cost difference will be a
small percentage of the overall cost. Also, 1366 motherboards have
now pretty well matured, with most bugs ironed out. FSX is a CPU
intensive app, and the CPU/RAM bandwidth capabilities of the i7
along with 64 bit Win 7 Pro will offer very smooth FSX performance.

Well, speak as you find. My new i5 runs FSX Deluxe with Accelerator pack
at 30 fps with all the sliders maxed out. That's a vanilla install with
no add-ons. Haven't done much more than fire it up and have a few short
flights as I much prefer FS9.

Other interesting bits are a 1Gb Radeon 4870 and 8gb ram under Win7 64-bit.

The CPU in it self would make a small improvement, but paired with a fast
Motherboard and ditto RAM you'll be in an different world.
