I doubt I have a strong mind, anymore. Maybe I have a a widened reading
experience from deciphering machine shop notes (The guys from Thailand
have the best handwriting, BTW). Is it a left-brain, right-brain
proportions thing? - or is that thinking out of style, now?

This system is idiotic... it started in the days of the teletype when
every character cost money to send. Now it's anywhere from useless to
dangerous. But the good news is it provides a government job for
somebody to take a perfectly good area forecast and translate it into
gibberish.

On practical test day the examiner will present you with a page long one,
usually the hardest one they can find, and make you read it from start to
finish.

That is the last time the pilot will ever use that skill.
