I understand that I can add them to the a/c panel as a gauge. Is that how
the are installed or isn't that just the way to install an indicator on your
panel?
Mainly I'd like to know if there is a way to increase the amount of braking
that is applied.

If it can be done, I'm sure Danny knows how to do it.

The world unfolds according to its own inner algorithms of cause and effect, probability and chance without any regard for human feelings.
Look for spoilers under [airplane_geometry] they are the air brakes on the
A/C

Looking at the aircraft.cfg for the A321 in FSX, you see an entry
SPOILER_LIMIT=60. This sets the degree of deflection to 60 degrees.
SPOILER_EXTENSION_TIME=2 sets the deployment time, in seconds, of the
spoiler.
The drag values do not seem to be shown in the aircraft.cfg. But with a
program such as Airwrench, which opens and modifies the Airbus_A321.air
file (for example), it shows SPOILER LIFT=-48 which would be negative lift,
SPOILER_DRAG=122.1, SPOILER_PITCH (nose up or nose down)=10. (Pitch scale
runs from -100 to +100.)

So it seems you can make them available or unavailable, set deployment time
and deflection, set autospoilers, but you do not have much control over
their flight dynamics unless you are editing the .air file.

If you want something other than 0% or 100% spoiler
deployment, you can use the mouse to move the
spoiler lever on the console panel for intermediate
settings.

Hi Danny,
Thank you SO much for this. I completely forgot that speed brakes are also
called "Spoilers" and couldn't find anything to edit. I will take a look and
do some adjusting, perhaps. I don't want to overdue the drag effect (thank
you, Ariel!).
OK, the specific a/c is a B-52H for FSX. I think this one is an update of
one by Mike Stone. Hitting the spoiler with this plane deploys a large chute
to slow down the plane. When I landed at Travis AFB (is it still active?) I
had some trouble stopping by the end of the runnway.
Would a B-52H have reverse thrusters? Also, what seems like a realistic
speed at touchdown?
Thanks for any more advice!

Designers and developers do make an attempt to replicate the real planes,
but more times than not their research on the older planes is limited. So
adjust it to where YOU like it and where YOU can have fun with the sim.
Some will say 'that's cheating'. I say...I am not trying to win anything so
how can it be cheating. I bought the sim to have fun and fun I do have. I
can sit in my leather recliner, laptop balanced on the left armrest and
joystick in my lap. I must be cheating all the time. I don't know of any
real pilots who have it that comfortable.
