- Autopilot altitude increment (too much trouble to use Ctrl-Shift-Z and
then +/-!)
- Autopilot altitude decrement
- Autopilot altitude hold switch on/off (Ctrl-Z doesn't work because it
resets the setting to current altitude)
- Autopilot airspeed increment
- Autopilot airspeed decrement
- Autopilot airspeed hold switch on/off (Ctrl-R doesn't work because it
resets the setting to current airspeed)
- Autopilot heading hold switch on/off (Ctrl-H doesn't work because it
resets the setting to current heading)
- selecting the cockpit (So that + and - (and the joystick) zooms in and
out. After ATC window has been up it gets focus and keeps focus even after
it's gone!)
How can I get/make these shortcuts??
Is there any add-on that can help me?
Allan
www.rodgerdodger.net have a downloadable keyboard
template you can use.
Cheers
Really??? I have been looking that!! I always knew you could have more
keyboards but I didn't think they could assign the keys differently! So how
do you do that?
Secondly, if FSX doesn't have shortcuts for the above in the controls dialog
box, how do I then program the key??!

You probably misspelled the domain name - I get to a domain parked at
Godaddy...
Allan
Yep....misspelled the name (sorry - I'm old)
www.rogerdodger.net for the main page and
http://www.rogerdodger.net/diyflightsims.html for the keyboard
Charles
Ahh. But I live in Norway so ordering that kit is not so easy... :( You know
what software to use to program the second keyboard differently than the
primary keyboard?
Allan
The registered version of fsuipc4 can assign these. Even in the free,
unregistrered version, there is an included pdf "list of fsx controls"
which lists out all the available controls. You can use this to edit
"standard.xml" which is located in your user appdata fsx folder (where
fsx.cfg is) in the controls subfolder. Note: some hardware changes
can result in fsx rebuilding your standard.xml which might erase your
edits. The default standard.xml in the main flight sim x folder can
also be edited to prevent this.
For example, in the fsx controls is: AP_ALT_VAR_INC to increase the
autopilot altitude setting. Open standard.xml and go into the
<SimControls.Map>
<Name>KEYBOARD_MAIN</Name>
section, then add a new entry section such as:
<Entry>
<Key>SHIFT+F5</Key>
<Down>AP_ALT_VAR_INC</Down>
</Entry>
to assign shift-F5. You can also add an <Up> </Up> line to get
the key to do something different when you release it, but I don't
see any application for that with AP controls.

The rogerdodger 'keyboard' kit is simply a PDF file that you
download (after you pay, of course). You cut out the key
'names' and 'colour' from the pdf - and paste on your keyboard.
But configuring a 2nd keyboard is the same as any other
keyboard.
Enter 'Settings', 'Controls', and look at list of assignments.
Highlight the assignment (key combination) that you want,
double click it - and press the key on the 2nd keyboard.
DONE.
Of course, you will have to label the keyboard at some point.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but why not just use your mouse to
make the changes? I hardly touch the keyboard shortcuts. I love my
mouse.....
Arthur
It's much faster to use a keyboard than a mouse. I don't know how you are
flying, but if you fly like a real pilot there are sometimes many things to
do at the same time and it's important to not waste 3-4-5 seconds on getting
to each control.
Any hardcore computer guy will also use the keyboard as much as possible in
order to be able to get things done as quick as possible.

That's the idea. Allan....use the mouse to push the buttons and flip
the levers. This allows the novice pilot to learn the panel and the
controls. There aren't too many 'real pilots' who fly with a
keyboard, so I suppose I fly more like a pilot than a typist.
I'm not so much of a hardcore computer guy as I am a flight simmer. I
suppose after years of using the flight sim, I've grown accustomed to
the locations of the flight controls, and using a mouse to locate them
rapidly is just another function of flying. To me, the keyboard is
for someone who doesn't have access to a mouse or to use sometimes
when it's a bit more convenient or even necessary, such as igniting
the engines on the CRJ-700.
I should say, however, in order to keep it honest, I do use the
keyboard on occasion and even some buttons on my joystick. I'm
definitely not a purist.......and I still do love my mouse. : )
Arthur
I don't think you understand what I want to do. The above only configures
the keys on the 2nd keyboard to do the same commands as the identical keys
on the 1st keyboard do. I want one set of keyboard commands for one keyboard
and then use the same keys on the second keyboard to do another set of
commands - so that I have a lot more keys available to do all the commands
in FSX.
Allan
Also, have you ever flown for a virtual airline where you have to try and
fly as realistic as possible?? When you are handflying a plane you simply
can't focus on moving the mouse and hitting a target at the same time in
critical periods of the flight.

Now I'm just missing this one - anybody has any idea how I would do that?
I have looked through all of "List of FSX controls.pdf" from FSUIPC (but of
course not tried ALL as there is a ton!) but cannot see immediately what
could do the trick...
