Decided to drive over to Long Beach today. The weather was fine..
74°F and sunny!! Found the Phillips 66 Refinery in Carson CA on the
way over there.

Anyway.. have wanted to see this place for a LONG time, and it finally
happened. Weird huh, almost as if someone is monitoring this forum and
making it happen... Naaah!! :))

Here is just a sample of the 104 (4000 x 2248) hi-res photos taken.

Go WIDE to 1280 pixels for these!!

Through the fence on Conant Street straight on..

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/DC_Jets_factory.jpg

Wide angle from the south east.. the place is a ghost town!!

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/DC_Jets_east.jpg

Zoomed SE angle... a little grainy from the zoom:

Douglas Park looking west (east side of monument in shade with
compensation.)

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/Douglas_Aircraft_1940.jpg

West side of Douglas Park rotary. Suggest to locate this on G-Earth.

Zoomed in close w/Fly DC Jets 1-1/2 blocks away..

It's amazing to actually be here, and get to see this place. Its where
DC-9s and MD-80's were built.. yes? The DC-10 assy buildings have
all been raised (torn down.) The desolate scene is quite depressing.
I think production has come to a halt? As an old timer said at the
Watsonville Air Show in 2011.. "that's back when we used to make
things in this country!!"

more kool pic to come..

Fly DC Jets sign from gate at 4501 Conant St entrance:

Douglas Park view from north (afternoon sun from right.) On either
side are empty lots concealed from view by chain-link fence with
woven covering. Fancy trees line the thoroughfare on either side.
(high zoom - long street)

Obviously a facade to hide 10 acres of DIRT on either side.

It's sad really. { sniff }

Suppose this will be the last of the Douglas Park photos. Even with no
response I'm sure there are a few who find them interesting.

First lets see a GE view referencing the photos. It was fun to make!

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/Douglas_Park_GE_256.png

Boeing HQ is labeled above. Below is a pic of HQ from the gate at 4501
Conant St. The DC Jets sign is off to the RIGHT.

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/Boeing_site_HQ.jpg

Another view of HQ to put things in perspective, looking NE from
circle / round-about. Blue mesh hides DIRT lots.

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/Boeing-HQ_from_Circle.jpg

From circle looking at Boeing 717 factory, illuminated trees an all.
Nice balls dude!

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/Douglas_Park_to_Jets_sign.jpg

Douglas Park sign.

http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/Douglas_Park_sign.jpg

The DP.org URL on the sign doesn't work but I found a related PDF doc.

Ok that's it. Another fine weekend for exploring aerospace, rock
concert and other CT related places. :))

Hi Gregory,

I, for one, mate, have been checking them all out.

I'm sure many others have been too.

Great photography, I just haven't felt I could add anything useful...

Regards,
John Ward

thanks, Gregory, for sharing these photos. I found them very interesting.
Wondering what scale those airplanes are flying around the ball?

Don't know about the scale. You'd need to find the size of the globe
or pedestal as a reference.

Have found some related videos, the first one describes the factory
building numbers and what airplanes were built there.

ANd this one about MD-80 production and flight.. (1984)

There are lots more on U-tube.
