Is there a FSX or FS9 addon for raindrops in 3D cockpit mode? I miss
the lifelike raindrops in Flight Unlimited 3.

Thanks.

Hi Figaro,

For FSX, the file you want is FSX_VCRain_Fix.rar, available here:

http://www.torrentreactor.net/torrents/1548083/FSX-VC-Rain-Fix

You might need WinRar to extract the .exe file from it. It is available
here, in 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and its not necessary to buy it:

http://www.win-rar.com/download.html

Let us all know if that does the trick for you, mate.

Regards,
John Ward

John.. how about giving us an overview of how the torrent thing works,
and what the downside might be? IOW.. what's the easiest way to
download the file without signing up or installing toolbars, etc?

Hi Gregory,

Just email me, mate, and I'll attach it in a reply - the .exe file is
only ~ 2.2 MB.

Figaro, of course you're quite welcome to email me also, and save
yourself a bit of time.

Regards,
John Ward

I downloaded and installed VC_Rain in FSX, and saw no raindrops on the
windshield while in VC mode. I tried several aircraft, including the default
C172. Fortunately the VC_Rain install program makes a backup of the original
textures, so it is easy to re-install the original textures. That was just
my experience though.

That looks like somebody's "stash". I have most of that stuff but what is
Digger Simulator?

Well, yeah. I had the weather set to "Major Thunderstorms". It was pouring,
and I did get raindrops on the windscreen in the 2-D cockpit, just not in
the VC cockpit. The VC_Rain installation looked good, and the new
"vcrainxxx.bmp" textures were installed in the main Texture folder of FSX. I
don't have FSX Acceleration installed, but I do have SP2 installed. Maybe
it's an Acceleration thing?

OK I downloaded and installed it, but i still don't get the rain
water beading across or splashing against the windows like i did with
Flight Unlimited. It still looks pretty much the same as before.
Maybe I did something wrong in the install?? (it was automatic)

I do hear the sound of the rain though...which is pretty cool.

Hi Figaro,

Google FSX_VCRain_Fix, and read some of the links that, apparently, lead
to discussions on various Forums......

I haven't read them myself, but there seems to be two types of
problems - no rain at al, and rain not working properly......

John Ward

I believe those "rain fixes" only apply to FS9 models imported
into FSX. I do not believe that you can get rain effects to
work on a true FSX model.

If you want rain effects try Wings of Prey!

No, if you want rain effects, try Wings of Power, who are now Air to Air
(or A2A Simulations). AND/OR RealAir (Spitfire, for FS9).

The animated raindrop effect both appears, and works perfectly, but they're
payware.
