Jeez I feel better now, but how do I fix it, System restore dont work,
Repair gets an error message and rolls back what it had done.
I suppose copy the FSX folder to the second drive and reinstall FSX and
see if it will activate.
Any other idea's

Wow, that sucks. Is there not a number you can call to get them to fix that
internally perhaps?

Again... unbelievable. Legitimate product owners are harassed into using
the same crack that allow pirates to run the program trouble free.
What do you bet when SP1 comes out it will look for the cracked .dlls and
deactivate those installations.

Rebooted and got the Repair to work and then Re Activated without a
prob.
The Arseholes really need to be shot.
If I had changed anything on the PC I wouldnt have minded, but all I
did was start the sim without internet connected.
I say: No broom stick is big enough bettter use a big Bazzookkaaaa..
I agree about being pushed into using a hack but from the problems that so
many people had in the beginning, it was a no brainer. As far as SP1 goes -
that's an easy bypass. SP1 wants a 'pristine' install anyway.
I sympathize in a way with MS about piracy prevention but they need a better
way. All this crap does is irritate the legit user and is of absolutely NO
trouble to the hacker. Between the WGA and activation it is really annoying.

Whether or not to buy crippled crap that makes you a criminal is also
your decision. You technically risking jail time (even if it never
happens, isn't it nice to become a criminal just to use something you
bought?). I suspect as the new addon pack and the new fix are released
you'll again be trawling the net looking for another illegal download.
Please understand this isn't a personal attack on you Vic. I believe
you bought the product and all you're doing is trying to avoid
hassles. I'm just tired of seeing people say it's okay to buy crippled
products just because you can bypass the crippling. It shouldn't be
like this. If it goes wrong and it's so damned easy to get past, why
is it in the damned product? Could it be so chumps can keep re-buying
the same not-quite-ready junk again and again.
Sorry, no bet.
No personal offense taken, Sammy - in fact you just reworded my main
complaint about the WGA and activation. It does NOT work and is absolutely
no problem to a hacker or a pirate - it is only a problem to the legit user.
Go figure!
Back when FS9 was released, I had a friend who was *up* in the structure at
MS. I asked him about the useless "disk in cd " protection on FS9. His
response was something on the order of " It is primarily due to non US
distributors who demand something to protect their interests. They won't
handle the product unless they have some form of protection. In the US ,
there's a lot of piracy but it's basically individuals copying a product for
a few friends, etc. The Asian pirate community is mass marketing the product
complete with box, logo etc.
I obviously can't verify the truth in that statement but it does sound
logical.
Vic
I have uninstalled it, reinstalled it, uninstalled the Virus scanner
and turned off the Firewall.
FSX registers FSUIPC but no matter what I do it wont show the Addons
menu.
I was told by a little birdy that the .exe on the MS website does
legally what the Crack does illegaly, just bypass the activation probs
so that I can reload the sim and then reactivate it.
Little birdy lied - the crack disables the activation entirely. The reset
tool ( your ms exe) just resets the state of the activation.
To save you trouble: you will de-install FSX and re-install, probably only
to get an error 1722 on final install step. Then you will go to
Microsoft's site, find the "fix" for error 1722 in a Knowledgebase article
that requires download of a binary to reset licensing. This binary will
not work if you are logged in as Administrator (and given how badly written
most FSX add-ons are, many do run as administrator).
After a hellish debug session, I fixed this problem. You simply add the
Administrator user into the Users group and rerun the Microsoft KB article
fix and it will work. Microsoft's programmer incorrectly assigned NTFS
permissions to a key resource file used by this utility, and the
Administrator user is locked out from writing the file. After adding to
Users group, REBOOT (not optional), then re-install FSX, re-activate, and 2
fps performance is yours for the taking! :)
You can read some additional detail on AVSIM search for error 1722 thread
started by westes.

Steve Vernon
This is my first prob with FSX, I also had probs when I got fs5 fs2000
fs2002 and FS9.
Sure MS and Aces need a good bumreaming for making it so much trouble
out of the box, but you cant escape the Fact that FSX is 100% better
standard than FS9 ever was with all the addons.
They just got to get their act together to come up with a better
antipiracy method and understand that people expect their next product
to at least run ok on their last pc before being forced into yet
another upgrade, even tho I am already planning my next pc (mobo Pro
and Mem( now only 6mths old)) when I visit Singapore on hols next mth.
I finally got to see FSX the other day for a couple of hours on a
mate's machine. I checked out Sydney and Queenstown. I'll admit the
default scenery is nice - much nicer than FSX default - but if you
don't think the addons can even compete, you mustn't be using the
right addons. VIsta OZ scenery may not be as detailed in terms of topo
and landclass but its actually closer where it counts - the airports
etc. In FSX was horrified to see the runway at YSSY surrounded by
sand. Is there a fix for that yet? It looks disgusting. For NZ I
honestly think the free geographx topo and free Red Baron landclass
gave a nicer rendition based on pics i've seen. Anyway I guess it's a
matter of personal taste and if I hadn't been put off by the sand
apron at Sydney and the slow frame rate (I only got to see this on a
machine with a 6600GT) perhaps I'd think differently.
It's not all bad though. Being able to fly a heli without changing
realism settings was a nice improvement. I only got a couple of hours,
and I couldn't install addon planes etc. so I guess I didn't get time
to really assess it.
> This is my first prob with FSX, I also had probs when I got fs5 fs2000

Anything that completely prevented you from using the software you'd
bought despite a reinstall?

I'd have to spend more time with it to see when I get the chance. The
fact that you're raving about it makes me wonder what exactly I'm
missing because I've seen your setups and know you're no casual
simmer.

Good luck with that. Why should they? People like you are willing to
use it as is and put up with the reaming, willing to upgrade hardware
and dump the last version's addons without giving it a second thought.
Where's the incentive to do anything better? No wonder the addon they
announced seems to be a higher priority than the fix.
It all comes down to what you want from a SIM. Some people want
realistic planes and fly at 30000ft, some want realistic graphics and
their own backyard included. Others want to fly through hoops.
I put off buying FSX until someone( michael from FS-GS) convinced me to
try it after I upgraded my 6600gt to a 7950 and my AMD 3800 to an
FX-57, which I was buying only to get FS9 finally running smoothly. So
I relented and bought it. installed it and didnt think much of it. I
missed my GeoRender scenery and my DF Baron 58, Cardinal 177 and
Carenado's 182rg.
After finding the FSX patch for the 182rg I was in heaven, on the
ground and in the air it is so much like the plane I did my Constant
Speed endorsment in and Taxi-ing is 100% better( my biggest gripe with
FS9). I still wait/look everyday for the FSX realease of my other 3
favorites( planes that I can fly in real life) but dont miss them as
much anymore.
The diff for me is when I fly there is always something to see in FSX
not just fuzzy landscape inbetween addon scenery, the flight dynamics
are better, the diff views in the cockpits are perfect for running the
planes Totally in VC mode with TrackIR. Multi player has totally
dominated my FSX experience, something I never did in FS9. To be able
to share an aircraft, swap from Pilot to coPilot and still help in
flying is just amazing. We do Formation flying in 3 planes with 6
pilots, all on teamspeak and swapping seats when we want to look
around. Multiplayer stutters after 30min flying on my pc whereas single
player is smooth as silk the whole time(Simconnect prob). FS9 always
had microstutters but I am sure it would run great now on my new setup,
but it still doesnt get turned on. FSX does.
As you say I am no average simmer and I have realworld experience but I
still fly for different reasons than some. I like to fly between 2 and
7000ft and just see the cars on the roads, the many bridges, mountains
and valleys, tree's and just everything that FSX offers... With
FSGenesis and Cloud9 XClass( these are a must to get Standard scenery
to look like addon scenery)..
My advice is forget what others say, try things for yourself and then
decide what is best for you. I leave for 3 wks hols back at home in
Rockhampton Qld next mth and yes I am pissed that there is no Runway
present on Great kepple Island in FSX and no Barrage on the Fiztroy
river, but I have flown from Bris to Cairns and it is still better than
FS9 standard, VOS was a bit hard on my last pc but I am waiting for it
for FSX anyway.
Fotoreal scenery for UK and Switzerland(Pro) are great ,as is RedBaron
NZ and other addons that I have, and as I am based here in Holland and
have seen these places for my self I am happy to fly around Aus,
Europe, UK, America and then do multi player flights all over the world
with freinds that have been to those places and they sit in your
cockpit, help fly and tell you what it is like there, point out places
of interest and generally make the flight one to remember.
Thats why I stay with Fsx and havent gone back to FS9.
Still dont know what went wrong in my FSX to get the Cant Activate
Error but I do know that after 2 Repairs the Simmconnect.DLL wasnt put
back where it was supposed to go. After the 3rd reapir all is back to
normal and flying well. On my little 7950gtxxx/ FX-57/ 2g memory pc I
run 1 projector for VC cockpit and 1 x 17" for EZgpsV4 for the
Multiplayer/AI aircraft Radar screen. With Fsuipc and Widefs I run a
second pc( amd 2400+ 6200agp 1g mem) that runs 2 x 19" monitors with
FlightsimCommander 8.1( no FSNav in FSX yet) on 1 screen and
Teamspeak/Messenger and internet on the other. FSX still handels it ok.
Simple solution there, dont install SP1.
And you can hide your tracks using subscrption P2P proxy services
that are far more reliable and far more secure and anonymous than
using someone's misconfigured proxy server, though I mostly use it to
bpass the geographical restrictions on Capital FM, so I can listen to
them from outside Britain, provided there is a node in Britain active
at the time I want to listen. Capital FM's servers see the IP of the
proxy, instead of my IP, and lets me listen to the broadcast.
