Spent a couple of hours implementing the following tweaks in FSX:
Modified cfg file:
[Main]
FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33
[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=800
TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=3000
Replaced autogen files:
AutogenDescriptions.spb
Materials.spb
RoofDescriptions.spb
Replaced cloud, Taxi, Runway, Tree and Water textures with lower res ones.
Converted 6700+ ground textures to smaller resolution using Imagetool, NConvert
and batch process file.
Turned off anti-aliasing.
Now I can run FSX without a slide show with sliders at about 1/2.
Problem is, FS9 (which is maxed out with Ultimate Terrain, FSGenesis mesh and
Ultimate Traffic at 100%) still looks a whole lot better than FSX. And FPS in
FS9 is still 2 to 3 times faster than FSX.
Guess I will wait and see how the whole Vista/DX10/FSX thing shakes out and
keep using FS9 until then. Will keep FSX on my computer to fool around with
when I don't feel like flying.

Think that's how many of us feel. Reckon I'll really use FSX in 2 to 3 years
time. Proves that FS9 with add ons such as UT, GE Pro, FSG, UT is really a
top class product which at the mo FSX is nowhere near for those of us with
2+ year old kit.
