What kind of speakers do you use for FSX?

I'd like to improve the sound coming out of FSX. Thanks.

A set of fairly cheap 2.1 from Targa, about 15 years old but still doing
what they are supposed to :o)

Logitech Z623? THX certified! :)

BTW, would you consider using headphone with mic? I think most pilots
need to wear that gadget in reality.

I'm still using the same two M-Audio self-powered near field speakers
that I used for years with Sonar and Sound Forge in my home recording
studio. They sound great to me for FSX.

For at least 15 years used a 40w/ch Micro Multimedia Labs amp, speakers,
sub woofer, for great sound. Last year the magic smoke escaped from the
amp, so replaced it with a 100w AudioSource power amp, using the same
speakers. It'll rival most stand alone systems for music when not simming!
Also a budget PC Altec system plugged into the back channel for 4:1
sound. Kind of neat to have the sound come up on the rear speakers when
you look over your shoulder (unfortunately not available on all a/c)..

I'll bet that would be pretty neat with TrackIR.

I have a couple of built in-wall speakers connected to a 150 watt
Techics Amp/Tuner.

Not suggesting you should do this, I just wanted to play "whose dick is
bigger?" <grin>

I use the same two speakers on all four of the computers on my LAN. I
feed the audio from each computer into an audio mixer and use its output to
feed my speakers. I also have one output from my mixer going to an input on
my 5.1 surround sound home theater system that uses a 450 watt sub-woofer.
I don't use that for my sim sound, though, because my flight station is not
at the center of the sound field and it wouldn't sound natural unless it
was. I do use it sometimes to play videos of my flights that I have burned
to a DVD while I view them on my wide-screen TV. It shakes the whole room
if I turn it up very much. <g>

Not as big as mine. I have four 15 inch 3-way surround speakers and a
450- watt sub-woofer. I don't need no sreenkin' TrashIR. So there! <g>

Every since getting a big flat screen and surround sound system in the
living room, we haven't been back to a movie theater in about a decade
(except a couple of Imax movies).. The sound system really makes it!!!

I wouldn't consider a movie worth the time it takes to view it without
the full surround sound running. My A/V receiver has the digital multi-track
decoder so I can hear the original digital sound track if the movie has one.
It also decodes any digital audio signal from a TV station if they are
transmitting one. The blue light on my A/V comes on when it detects a
digital audio signal.

In reality, given that I live with a woman who thinks the sound of FSX is
just slightly more irritating than fingernails on a chalkboard, I wear a
Bluetooth headset. It probably sounds better than any speaker system
anyway.

I use only headphones...as my wife sits two feet away from me on her
computer. The sound of roaring radials would ruin our relationship. BTW, she
uses headphones too.

Just an ancient set of Logitech Stereo speakers, with floor mounted
'bass' BUT I'm adding a USB headset - for my next installation -
VOX-ATC !! The plane noises will be through the speakers, and the
ATC will be through the headset.

I think I'd miss the feeling that radials give when roaring on a subwoofer,
making your guts vibrate in tune :o)

Well all those other guys have impressive sound setups. But if you're
tight for space around your computer, as I am and if you don't want to
spend too much, as I didn't, the best bang for your buck are a pair of
Creative Inspire T10s like these:-

http://uk.store.creative.com/speakers/inspire-t10/4-17040.aspx

The price shown is higher than they can be purchased for over here and,
I guess, over there.

Don't judge them by their size or power rating. They give an excellent
wide range sound with an impressive bass.

True, with a headset you run the risk of rattling the fillings out of your
teeth.

Well, I have the next best thing to it for a sim. I have a Flight Chair
which makes me feel like I'm sitting in a real cockpit. I wouldn't think of
simming any other way. It just wouldn't feel real.<g>

Those are simular to the M-Audio near field speakers I use. I used mine
because that is what I already had on my computer for my home recording
setup to do audio mixing. They sounded fine on my sim computer also, so I
just used what I had. .

They look similar to the speakers I use, Iain, except mine are made by
Logitech. Two things I think are essential for flight simming, in addition
to the speakers, is a good set of earphones, and a subwoofer to hear deep
bass. Flying the Lancaster with that set up is "as real as it gets".
Headphones make a huge difference.

I'm glad I bought a pair. It's definitely an improvement over the Yamaha I had.

It's very loud with wife-complaining bass :-) I can't use it pass the 3-4 volume setting (out of 10?)which I think is normal.

Thank you.

I always wore a helmet or headsets so the sound level I'm used to
hearing isn't that loud.
