Nice pictorial boB. I can't take credit for figuring it out tho.

Like I said in my original reply I was having the same problem as you and
remembered a strange way to do it (under Vista) so I Googled and found the
sequence after reading many of the hits Google came up with. I didn't save
the link of course so I can't post the address of the post I was reading.

I'm not even sure of the search string I entered into Google... I mean that
was Saturday and today is Tuesday (early morning). A guy can't be expected
to remember what he did 48 hours ago. Right? Damn, -memory is getting
short now days. :-).

Interesting that boB as I found that right clicking just brought up a
Windows sub menu. It was left clicking in the white area that did it for
me. I wonder why the difference?

Your signature says it all: UK!! You even drive in the wrong side ;o)

OK, back to business, I have the same problem, and right clicking also only
brings up a sub menu here, but continuing to click the OK button a few times
makes the scenery install, some times, and some times it has no name, but it
installs and runs just fine.

So far I have the most used sceneries in place, but why does it have to be
such a problem, must be a Windows fault :o(

What files are in the 001, 002, etc folders? I do not have any folders in
my main flight sim X directory. I have some 0001, 0002, etc in the Scenery
folder but nothing like that in the main FSX folder. Just curious, I guess.

Does anyone have this issue and is there some magical workaround. When I
try and add Scenery in FSX manually and the sim is running, it categorically
refuses to allow the edit. I have to close FSX down and go to the
scenery.cfg, carefully type in the required lines of text and rebootup FSX
and bingo it is there. This only seems to be an issue under W7 as when I
had Vista and XP, the edits were allowed whilst FSX was running.
I have tried taking ownership of all the relevant files using a nifty MS
tool I found but to no avail, I have expanded all the file permissions and
no difference. It's not a huge issue just one of those little annoyances
that cause me to kick the wife and shout at the dog.

I have never had a problem. I add the scenery area to the Scenery Library
while the sim is running then when I click OK, it pauses and rebuilds the
Scenery Library and the new scenery is added and immediately available.
Vista 32 bit with UAC turned OFF.

Those are the directory's where I extract the different aircraft and
other installation programs. I like to manually move the files into the
FSX/FS9 folders.

Me too, boB. I created a Dump directory and I extract (dump) everything to
that folder, such as d:\dump\quest_Kodiak. Then I do as you do and drag
the folders contained therein, to the proper location.

That way I know where things are if sumpin' is wrong after the install.
Once I have checked out the addon scenery, plane, whatever, I go back to the
dump folder and delete that folder where the original zip was extracted.
Figger I can d/l or extract the file again if I need to reinstall.
