Hi
Does anyone know how to or if you can use multiple screens in FS2000?
Thanks

I don't believe that FS2000 is limited, just make sure your O/S can handle
it. Win98 can (not sure if it's just SE or the orginal one). Win2000 can
also support multiple monitors. Don't know which others, just those ones
are the ones I have used.

Everywhere I read how easy it is to get it working, but I struggled like you
wouldn't believe. It ended up working on the 3rd card I tried to use as a
secondary. I still have a problem in that my primary adapter is a GeForce2
MX 400 64Mb, but for some reason now it won't do hardware acceleration.
When I fire up FS2K2 it says that the adapter is now running in safe mode.
If I fire it up on my secondary monitor (SiS 300/305 32Mb PCI card) it runs
normally :-(.

I don't know how to get hardware acceleration going on my "good" card
though. I am running DirectX 8.1

One thing, when in FS, I wanted to move my throttle quadrant, radio stack
and GPS off to the secondary monitor, you have to undock the window, i.o.w
right-click the window you want to move, click on undock, then you can drag
it to the secondary window.

Hope this helps.

Ian

Yes. You can use two monitor cards or a local network. I prefer the
latter, since it doesn't overload the flitesim computer that way.

I just set up my two monitor system last weekend. It was a snap. I'm running
a AGP Pixelview X-Player Pro 64 Mb for my primary card. A PCI Diamond Viper
V550 16 Mb for my secondary card. I installed the PCI card, hooked up the
monitor cable and fired her up. Going into BIOS I set the PCI card as
Primary. rebooted and Windows 98 did the rest. Like Ian I put GPS, the radio
stack and throttle windows in the secondary monitor. I Love It! And after I
set-up and save a flight, when you come back to It, the window appears in
the second Monitor like you had it before. My wife shakes her head and says,
"It's starting to look like NASA in here". I wonder if that Space Shuttle
add-on for FS98 would work in FS2002? ;))

Bill. that sound interesting, how exactly do you get a multi-monitor config
using a LAN?

The simple answer is that rather than trying to use
1 computer to support several monitors (which doesn't
work worth a damn with FS2000 or FS2002, more like
a slide show than a flight sim) you use several
computers, each of which can dedicate itself to the
task of it's own display. It's much like multi-player
over a lan, except that each computer does it's own
window or instrument view for the same plane,
coordinating what each displays based on information
from the computer that is doing the flight model. For
more detailed explanations and the tools to start
rolling your own, follow the link you were given
and start doing a few web searches. But yes, some
people willing to devote the resources it takes to
do this right have been able to put together some
fantastic systems.

Gee. Lets see, maybe I'm doing this wrong. 2 Monitors + 2 video cards = 30
FPS (+). Some slide show.

There are several ways, but all of them involve having multiple copies of FS on
each machine, the primary instance serving as the host, and the others in
multiplayer configurations, and using WideFS as the communications protocol.
Rather than provide a rather elaborate tutorial on the specifics, may I direct
you to http://schiratti.com? There are other websites out there with similar
products, but I don't recall the URL's at the moment. There are some links at
the cited website to other available sources of information, which in turn will
lead to further links, ad infinitum. (well, maybe not infinite, but definitely
huge!) :)

Thanks for the link to schiratti.com, had a look at the site and Project
Magenta for a couple of hours last nite and it looks very impressive.
Also thanks for the explanation (WideFs, etc)
With the cost of a high end graphics cards approaching the cost of a used
P3-1000 box it may even make good economic sense.

However my initial intention was not to fly jets in IFR mode, but to fly
Cessna or Beech in VFR mode. I am fairly new to flight sim but was very
impressed with the scenery around Hong Kong, Rio or Cape Town in FS2002.
However I feel the lack of simultaneous side views is limiting the
simulation, hence the idea of using smaller (cheaper) monitors on each side.

By the way found another site for those interested in jets (747)
http://www.aerowinx.de/

Thanks again for the input - Oscar Haberl

Follow some of those links you will find alongside the pictures of other's
'cockpits.' If you notice carefully, you'll see that what you are speaking of
has already been done. Many of them have three monitors, but at least two have
FIVE: left, left 45, ahead, right 45, right.

All of this can be done with the software components already mentioned, and
more.

Thanks again Bill, I'll have a closer look
