Tweets is out doing what she does best... SHOPPING! Actually we're
going to celebrate and have Clarence Rutherford (lumpy) pancakes with
maple syrup for brunch tomorrow!!

I took a snapshot from Accuweather a bit ago.. and Norfolk is awash! By
tomorrow the area should be getting drenched. Not worried though..
we can always use a good rain shower now and then.

Radar.. http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/hurricane.png

See the two RED dots on Fairfax and Loudoun Counties which are along
the Potomac. Speaking of that.. maybe we'll drive over to Great Falls
after the storm clears, do some hiking and take river photos:

This thread is dead!? Well there's more to report and yes, we had
pancakes this morning. Hurricane Sandy (so we read) is supposedly
"the storm of the century?" Oh..? when are the wind and rain supposed
to start? Only a lite shower out there. BE AFRAID!!!

Here's a good one from a preparedness website... Lol

"Personally, I don't call 911.. Instead I call on Mr. Benelli. If you
don't know what "Mr. Benelli" means, here's an explanation why
Mr. Benelli instantly stops all looters:

I think it has been hyped-up many fold!! We are getting a steady rain
with no unusual winds. See motion radar below:

http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/virginia/weather-radar?play=1

Here's the National Weather Service alert verbatim:

THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE AN HISTORIC STORM, WITH WIDESPREAD WIND
DAMAGE AND POWER OUTAGES, INLAND AND COASTAL FLOODING, AND MASSIVE
BEACH EROSION. THE COMBINATION OF THE HEAVY RAIN AND PROLONGED WIND
WILL CREATE THE POTENTIAL FOR LONG LASTING POWER OUTAGES AND SERIOUS
FLOODING.

IF YOU ARE RELUCTANT, THINK ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONES, THINK ABOUT THE
EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WHO WILL BE UNABLE TO REACH YOU WHEN YOU
MAKE THE PANICKED PHONE CALL TO BE RESCUED, THINK ABOUT THE RESCUE/
RECOVERY TEAMS WHO WILL RESCUE YOU IF YOU ARE INJURED OR RECOVER
YOUR REMAINS IF YOU DO NOT SURVIVE.

Are these people at bunch of drug addicts? What kind of alert is that!
Or could they be agents of a foreign power or government?? hmmm?

They are, in my opinion, responsible people trying to issue
responsible warnings about a significant threat.

Agreed.. it is basically RAINING here and nothing more. At worse it's
a fall Nor'easter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nor%27easter

However if temperatures were cold, there would be blizzard conditions
for sure. The warnings were so exaggerated that I wonder what else is
going on in the background that we're being distracted from?

Weather update: it's raining here and the winds are stronger now...
temperature upper 40's °F. We went out in the weather around 3:30
PM with rain slickers and ski caps underneath the hoods.

Checked runoff into the pond (Ref: ducky buddies) but had to come
back because hands were wet and very cold. That was the main
difficulty.. should have had water-resis glovers.

Note: Accuweather says RealFeel is 29°F

It looks like the path goes right over Gregory's condo. Wouldn't surprise
me if G was offline tomorrow. Not so much for the wind or water (he's on
the second floor) but for the massive power outages expected.

Frankly I don't get it... I know, big size storm blah, blah. But it's a
CAT 1 storm!

Rita came through here as a Cat 2 storm and I went windsurfing.

First off.. it's a three-story townhouse with garage on lower level..
http://home.comcast.net/~flightsim/snowfall_129.jpg (Dec 2009)
and there's no basement below grade.

Offline smoffline.. the power lines for the community are underground.
There are no street poles or overhead wires. Massive smassive.. so a
few trees were toppled and took down electric lines. Let's make it
really sensational !! The Internet stayed up ok which was good, the
cable feeds being underground right up to the electric meter.

My report is... there was no significant weather here until mid-to-late
morning yesterday.. then rain, then wind driven rain. We were outdoors
between 2 and 3 pm and it was COLD and you had to have the hood
strings of your slicker secured.

Tracking METARs for KIAD.. winds were typically 25 MPH gusts 40 MPH.
Some gusts were mid to upper 40's. The worst hours were 4 - 10 PM when
the "big arm" of the main bang swept over the Potomac rotating CCW.
That's when winds were the highest.

Gosh.. if the media hyped it up any more.. the gvmnt would have to step
in and take over everything!!

Good reckoning... it was 2 am.

The wiff and I went to a concert last night and I was winding down with
a scotch.

And yes, Sandy affected me greatly. The lady that cuts my hair is
stuck in New York City after riding the Queen Mary. She won't be back
till Thursday.

Horribly inconvenienced I tell ya! I look like a shaggy barbarian...
It a disaster of biblical proportions!

Some day we'll have to go into the water filter and cooler system that

else?

No hype here, Gregory.
Many people killed by this storm. I heard 65 and count expected to rise.
Total devastation of shore communities in NJ, NY, CT.
NYC totally shut down. No electricity, no trains or buses. Subways and
tunnels flooded.
Billions of dollars damages.
Link below is to pictures of our family yacht club in Perth Amboy, NJ.
First few pics are just before worst part of the storm, with boats lined up
in the yard.
The later ones show the aftermath.
Fortunately our two family sailboats were elsewhere, so sustained only minor
damage.
We live just far enough inland to escape the worst.
Our family dodged a bullet. Many others didn't.
Strong language was intended to try to get people to evacuate from danger
areas.
Evidently it wasn't strong enough because many stayed put, then had to be
rescued.

He changed the subject to Sandy twice, and the second time I went into

Lets see now, as of an hour ago the Chicago Tribune is reporting the US
death toll as passed 80 (can't believe those leftie rags no how).
Damage estimates have surpassed 50 Billion. Around 7 Million families no
power (which would be maybe 20 million individuals), including lower
Manhattan. Thousands of vacant lots, or scrap piles, where there used
to be houses, of course the house may have only moved down several
blocks - BFD... 2-3' of snow in West Virginia, also no power. Yep,
without doubt media fabrications, and LOTS of 'photoshopping'.

You really do need a device to educate yourself with the real world and
in real time.

I flew around in a helicopter today (not sure if the President was in it
but might have been).

The damage is real. Canada has offered to send down some electric people.

A mom lost her two babies as she was trying to exit the floods and she
lost them in the water.

Get yourself a TV. Watch current events.
