A real novice to FSX and this group but am hoping for a little
advice from you more seasoned fliers. I have just installed FSX and
on recommendation of some articles I read bought the logitech joystick
instead of the Microsoft one. The default key assignments do not seem
good nor complete. Tried a few of my own with some success. Did
discover that I hit key 2 accidentally so not sure what to use it for.
Thanks and happy new year
email response not expected but to respond remove .uk at end
TIA

Hi Hank,

Not sure about the Extreme 3D Pro or FSX but I use the Force 3D Pro
(probably similar) and have the following set up via the FS9 Setup menu -
HTH.
:-

1 Brakes Apply/Release
2 TOGA Engage Autothrottle
3 Flaps Extend Incrementally
4 Elevator Trim Up
5 Flaps Retract Incrementally
6 Elevator Trim Down
7 Views Cycle Backwards
8 Views Cycle (Forwards)
9 Rudder Trim Left
10 Rudder Trim Right
11 Landing Gear Up/Down
12 Parking Brakes On/Off

This works OK for me but you may have other thoughts after using your
settings for a while.
I find it takes a few flights to remember the settings if I have been
earthbound for a while.

Happy New Year to you.

Hi Hank,

I have just signed up for this group - and yours was the first post I read
and, hey, I too have just bought the Logitech Extreme 3d Pro! I agree re
your comments on key assignment and have set mine up as follows:

1. Brakes
2. Reset Forward View - very useful after panning using the 'hat'
(keyboard = Numpad Decimal)
3. Extend flaps incrementally
4. Trim up
5. Retract flaps incrementally
6. Trim down
7. Gear up/down
8. Release droppable objects
9. Spoiler/airbrake out/in
10. Arm spoilers
11. Cycle views (keyboard = S)
12. Cycle views (keyboard = A)

I might make some adjustments over time and will be interested to see what
others have set up.
Hope this helps
Regards
Tim

Hank,

Should also have said welcome to the group, I have found it to be a very
friendly and helpful place.

Should also have said that I also hit the 2 button accidentally sometimes
but with TOGA set it is usually pretty safe and only really embarrassing and
frustrating when hit on finals.

Looks like we all have our seperate needs and favorites :o)

On my Extreme 3D Pro i have this:
1) Stasndard brakes
2) View cycle
3-6) Flaps and trim as most others
7) Auto arm spoilers
8) Extend spoilers
9) Wing fold
10) Tail hook
11 & 12) Depends on what I'm currently flying (Helo govern, drop tanks,
radio commands, special features, etc.).

Yes button 2 is easy to mishit, which is why I too have it assigned to
something non critical but still commonly used. Wing fold and tail hook are
also used for special features on some A/C's, on my favorite big heavy
(MD-11) Wing fold operates the rear exits.

Thanks to all that have replied. True there are individual
preferences. I had something similar to yours. I dropped using key 2
but as another said return to front seems like a good idea. Use trim
and flaps on keys 3,4,5,and 6 seem good. I used side by side rather
than up and down option. I used keys 11 and 12 for autopilot since I
tend to get screwed up and keeps me from crashing as I learn. Have not
used spoilers or helicopter yet so did not think of them. Maybe some
keys will have to change depending on the aircraft. Software seems to
allow you to store different key options.

Spoilers and Airbrakes is the same, and you are going to need them when you
move up in the heiraky to big heavy iron, or you wont be able to stop before
running out of tarmat, flying fighter jets they are handy for slowing down
before making steep turns.

Hi Hank, I am also a FSX novice, and I have my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro set to these setup for FSX, and I'm comfortable with it:

Button 1 (trigger): Brake
Button 2 (thumb) : Switch view categories
Button 3 : Extend flaps incrementally
Button 4 : Trim elevator down
Button 5 : Retract flaps incrementally
Button 6 : Trim elevator up
Button 7 : Drop objects (some missions)/Jetway
Button 8 : Landing gear
Button 9 : Spoilers on/off
Button 10 : Engine autostart
Button 11 : Pushback
Button 12 : Parking brake

And as an addition, these are my hardware specification, and it can run FSX on mixed med-high to high settings flawlessly at 20-30 FPS, dense clouds and 30-40 FPS, thin clouds and 40-50 FPS, ground level:

Intel Core i5 3570 (3.8GHz, quad core, 6MB cache)
AMD Radeon HD 7850 (2GB DDR5 256 bit 860 MHz)
4GB Ram
500GB HDD (70GB Dedicated for FSX)
Full HD Display

From 1-6 we are the same, the rest will most likely depend on what you fly
the most :o)

Happy flying.

I use FSUIPC and I have different button and axis assignments for each
type I fly. Something that can't be done in FSX.Settings/Controls. FSUIPC
will use the proper profile for that plane when I load the flight. I won't
need to change anything to use another type plane.
