Dovetail Games purchased FSX restricted rights off Microsoft allowing them
more or less to just to tweek FSX and now known as 'FSX Steam'
It seems to feature a new complier (2013 V 2005), improved texture quality,
better compatibility with modern O Systems, quicker load times, new aircraft
and better quality textures.
Prepar3D is still better so goes the reviews but also twice the price.

FSX Steam Premium is one complete package featuring the popular add ons
from Rex A2A, Orbx and Rex. A bit dearer of course.

Dovetail Games has signed a global licensing deal with Microsoft, granting
exclusive rights to develop and publish all-new flight simulation products
based on Microsoft’s genre-defining technology.
Consequently Flight Simulator 2016 seems targeted for the Windows 10
gaming platform although some commentators are suggesting it will be an
improved general FSX based flight simulator beyond the present 'steam'
version, being made possible by less restrictions from Microsoft.

We'll see.

Don,
Are you using the Steam edition of FSX? If so, have you had problems
with random crashes during flights? I can't seem to find a fix for this
and have had the program crash anywhere from taxiing to a runway to
start a flight to crashing on final, just about to touchdown after a 2
hour flight (that one really pisses me off) and taxiing to a parking
space at the end of a flight.

Hi
I'm still on FSX gold. I keep checking P3D but with the split scene
comparisons I prefer the old FSX with the soft contrast but P3D is better
with less (noticeable)scenery approach pop ups which annoy me after XPlane.
P3D often shows water as black which again is a contrast issue. Steam is
supposed to be an improvement over old FSX with less of the problems such as
yours :-( - I'm waiting firstly to see the offer with the Steam Premium
package or an announcement on FS2016 and what that offers. A fix for your
probs? Well the first action would be to delete the FSX CFG as we did in the
past and while you are in that (hidden) folder check the simobjects to see
if there are any remains of 3rd party? FSX aircraft that didn't delete (if
you went from one sim to the other) Failing that go to
https://steamcommunity.com and check the forum as I'm sure I saw all
sorts of problems discussed there.
Cheers

did someone also suggest you install the program elsewhere if you are with
Win.10?
Might be another thought regardless.
