I've tried, and the game works until I try to do something that puts me in a
mech, then it returns to the previous screen I was on, instead of loading up
the part of the game to play in the mech.
My system is a Pentium 200, 64MB RAM, Windows 98, Sound Blaster 32 and a
Monster 3D card (Voodoo 1).
Any ideas?

I tried to install DirectX 2.0, but the installer doens't seem to work under
Win98.
To get Mech 2 3dfx to run you need to have a file from the original
glide installation installed. So if you did a clean install of Win98
and installed the latest drivers and glide the game will dump out as
soon as you try to launch. Easiest fix is to remove the card under
control panel reinstall using the original program and then update
your other drivers.

Hello Chris,
We have had many reports of product designed for Windows 95 no longer
functioning with the installation of Windows 98. Many system manufacturers
are suggesting not to upgrade until they release patches, drivers, bios
updates, etc. It may also be the fact that you have two 3D cards installed
and the game may be recognizing the matrox card instead of the voodoo card.
that is what normally causes this error message.
PROBLEM :
When trying to launch a mission in Mechwarrior 2 3DFX version for Windows
95, I am immediately informed that I failed it.
SOLUTION :
You must be using a 3DFX Voodoo card. 3D video cards from ATI, S3, STB,
and Matrox are not 3DFX cards.
The Diamond Stealth 3D is not a 3DFX card. (The Diamond Monster 3D is,
however.)
1. Make sure that DirectPlay or Old DirectPlay is installed in Dxsetup. If
it is not, select Reinstall Direct X.
2. Please reinstall your Glide runtime driver. The latest version can be
downloaded from www.3dfx.com.
3. You may not have Windows 95 32bit drivers for your CDROM. Contact the
hardware manufacturer for new drivers.
EXPLANATION :
Click on START, then SETTINGS, then CONTROL PANEL. Select SYSTEM, then
DEVICE MANAGER. If your CD is not listed there under CDROM, you definitely
need to get 32bit drivers.

If anyone has the solution to this, please help, as it sounds like a good
game (lots of fans here!). I've e-mailed Activision, but no reply yet
(only been a few days).
System: P133, 32Mb, 8xCD-ROM, ATI Mach64CT 2Mb graphics card, Orchid
Righteous 3Dfx 4Mb card, DirectX 5.0, 2Gb free on hard disk.
Thanks,
Paul.

If anyone knows the *specific* file versions to get this correctly working
on a Voodoo 1 card, I'm sure that several people could use it.
