Someone told me I could try MAME32 and use it with the program,
but the application disk does not work with MAME32.
Someone else told me I could download the ROM for DOH in a MAME32
compatible format, but I don't know where to look.
Can someone help me out with that?
I tried the Arkanoid disk with Microsoft Arcade/return of arcade
but it did not work either. So, I'm looking for a MAME32
compatible version.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you.

The 'ARKANOID Revenge of DoH' listed below works fine on my AMD 1800+
running Win98 SE. I'd have to slow it down with software designed to
throttle these older games, as it plays about double (or so) the speed I
remember.

I have gotten Mame 32 version .33 beta and that is all I know so
far of where to start. Are ROMS small enough so someone could
just email the Arkanoid ones to me? I need to get started small
I guess.
I have bought some of the old game sets from Microsoft and Atari
and even Williams, but none have Arkanoid, so I wanted to find a
way to play it.
Thank you very much.
So, I wanted to try what I was suggested to before giving up.
Thanks.

First of all, grab the latest version of mame32, which is version 0.68,
here:
http://www.mame.dk/download/emu/mame32v68b.zip
Then in addition to the alt.games.mame FAQ (see my signature), and the
documents which come with mame, read this guide to setting up and using
mame:
http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu
Then, follow Loonybin's advice on obtaining ROM sets:

Looneybin, you got a keyboard shortcut for posting that message in
ctrl+alt+n (for Newbie ;-). Or just use the good ole copy/paste
method?

I'm a bit confused. some of the emails I got mentioned Mame and
Mame32 as separate products. Is Mame for command line and Mame32
for the Windows GUI? If so, is Mame32's version .68 the same as
the .68 version of the regular Mame in terms of core
functionality?
Thanks

Yes. One (mame32) has a built in GUI, and the other is strictly command
like, although they're both Windows programs.
There are DOS and Linux command line versions as well.
Thanks
http://www.cybamall.com/shadowtek/
and used that flash get thing, grabbed all of those and copied
them over to ROMS. A dozen or two did not work with .68, though
they did with .33 (I tested just to be sure) but the rest seem to
work.
I did not know there were so many.
After installs and all I got Arkanoid to work. It plays like my
old floppy disk game used to before I got the fast new machine.
Thanks very much for all the help.
No.

ROMs sort of change with time. It's explained in the FAQ at
http://www.mame.net
You can use the excellent ROM manager ClrMAMEPro to clean up your ROM
collection. There are detailed instructions on how to use it at
http://www.mameworld.net/easyemu - Good luck.

Yes, Mame32 .68 is the same core engine as Mame .68
and
No, you are not losing any functionality using Mame32 over Mame?
Thanks

I use plain old copy and paste from another .txt file. :)

Yes this is accurate.

this is also accurate, Mame32 just puts a gui on top of mame source
code. (John iv I love what you do btw)
Most people in here running windows run Mame32 on their gaming
computer. To confuse matters you could also use a front end (to
serve as the GUI. . .there are tons) that might add some other
features you may need/want. Emuloader is probably the most popular
front end.
The last straw, so you are absolutely sure:
1. Use mame (command line) without a front end if you are a hacker
and just love typing
2. Use Mame32 if you want an easy and wuick way to start playing the
games.
3. Use mame (command line) and a front end if you hate the way Mame32
looks or you just enjoy tweaking stuff to no end!
4. Use XMame, mame-X, mac-mame, mame+, fillInYourOwnMame after you
get the hang of it and want to put mame on some other device (x-box,
Linux distro, Cell phone (who knows what's in the future.) Play mame
now on your toaster!!!
HTH
Yes :-)

LOL!!!!
Funny!
