Unfortunately Death Race was such an early video game that it didn't
have ROM chips. The game was completely hard-wired into the large PCB
board! Check it out at the KLOV: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7541
Only 500 of the Death Race machines were made so they are extremely
rare and very hard to come by. But as incredible as it may seem,
someone is actually selling a working Death Race PCB board on eBay
right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190182398781
I used to play Death Race with my 2 younger brothers whenever we got
the chance back in the late '70s. I've always held out hope that
someone would create an emulation or clone of the game so I could play
it again...
Carmageddon was a game where you tried to run over people. I know its
no clone, but its the closest I saw come to this idea. GTA: Vice City
and other games let you run over pedestrians....
Yeah I saw that... (ebay) which is what made me ask if roms were
available. I didn't realize it was hard-coded.
You know, Carmageddon is specifically awesome. :)
But, for a similar gameplay to this (I've never played it), try the
Atari 2600 Race controller and cartridge that sold with it. It has a
"grab the block" game where you chase after it. Was really fun 2
player for my brother and I.
