just wanted to post a 3d rendering of my proposed mame cab and ask for any
recomendations.

i am trying to keep this as low - no budget as possible.

i have everything i need except the monitor/tv and trackball (and DL2
sideart)

http://www.keithcorcoran.com/arcade/mame01.jpg
of course i couldn't afford the side art when i WAS able to find it..

so i am thinking of just doing my own art based off my design studio logo.
probably hand painted. and get the marquee printed on some backlit type
mylar or whatever it is they print on.. i'd thing eventually paperwould
yellow. i dunno.

http://www.keithcorcoran.com/arcade/mame02.jpg

i am thinking of getting a wico track ball. 2.25 inch.. is only like $25 (a
wico 3inch is about $50)
then hack it into a mouse (of which i have many to canibalize.)

as far as monitor.. i am thinking since my laptop that i will be using to
run the machine (and still be removeable for general use through the slide
out pcb tray on the front of the machine) i'd just pick up a cheap 25"inch
tv.

anyone have any suggestions on cheap 25 inch tv's?

i probably wont go with the arcade monitor route because i want to be able
to run maphne emu on this as well and use other windows software, etc.

all opinions/suggestions are welcome.. such as.. (if it was me.. i'd...)

also looking for best painting techniques for the cabinet.. type of paint
application method. etc etc.

what i'd really like to devise would be a steering wheel setup i could
mount/clamp/quick connect fasten to the CP in the center and mount a foot
pedal i have to the lower right of the machine for games like pole position
or something.. although i think some of these driving games used
potentiometers for throttle and not simple on-off. (the pedal i have is
on/off microswitch)

any suggestions on making something like that happen.. including mounting
schemes would be cool.

again, not trying to spend much loot here at all. so far everything i've
gotten has either come free or through trade for other stuff i had. i've
just been REALLY patient.

thanks.

Wow nice 3D picks.

Amazed at the size of the marquee, it's almost a pinball backboard!
Are you planning on putting anything (apart for lights) in that area?

It's a little hard to tell from the render, are you putting any
speakers in the black area above the screen? What sort of sound system
did you have in mind?

I prefer an ergonomic button layout where the buttons are arranged in
a curve (middle 2 buttons raised) and the whole button block is
rotated counter clockwise about 12 degrees in relation to the
joystick. See picture of 4-player panel I helped a friend design:

thanks.
actually i planned to mount the shielded PC speakers i have in that area
above the monitor where the grill on that cabinet is. i have a spare speaker
and sub set for now.. as long as it doesn't sound too tinny and cheap it
should be good. wife don't let me blast it anyhow.

i already have the plexi up there for the marquee.. which IS huge. and will
just get that soulshot logo printed on some backlit type material.

i never though of the ergonomic setup. i basically went off the dimensions
of a capcom fighter as i found the capcom template somewhere online.

i just scored a happ translucent trackball for the cabinet and now debating
whether to do a mouse hack or pay the $40 for an ultimarc and search for a
spinner too.

i'm dying to play crazy climber and robotron with 2 sticks... and not my
fingers sprawed across the keyboard. haha

also debating now on a 25 or 27 inch tv. i have to measure for the 27.

Looks really nice. It looks tall. How high is it?

i think that cabinet's total height is like 70+ inches.

it's a big one.. but it was free, in good condition and sort of does look
pretty cool. :)
i modelled the 3d to scale using these plans..

http://www.brightsight.com/Arcade/DL2/Cabinet/default.asp

which doesnt note a floor to top height but you get the idea.

i need to refinish the sides. anyone have any suggestions on painting a
cabinet for the best results?
application method and paint type.
