Best thing to do is to look at www.tombstones.org.uk and see if there is a
burner in your area.

He's talking about one DVD filled to the brim with roms in your regular

Please enlighten us all. WHY is it that you want to download ALL the
roms from one place.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! *SHORT GICKLE*

Ummm, no. I don't think that's going to happen.

Go check the Tombstones page for ways to get the ROM sets, that's the best
way you are going to find for getting them.

All right, I'm going to explain this in the best English that I can.

No one is going to upload 4.5 gigabytes of data to you. If you are
wondering why, I'll explain. That is a huge amount of data to transmit
over the internet, unless you have a T1 a T3 or perhaps an OC3
connection.

Some people in this group, like myself, have indeed downloaded the
entire MAME ROM set. We pieced it together from many sources - FTP (the
few that are there), newsgroups, and, when it was still serving ROMs,
http://www.mame.dk.

Where it is possible to download all MAME ROMs off the Internet, I will
tell you now that will take you a long time. It took me nearly two and
a half months, followed by a week more to use CLRMAME Pro to make sure I
had, truly, everything, and more time to get the 'additional' material -
artwork, marquees, snapshots, etc.

http://www.tombstones.org.uk is a website that, among other things,
offers a 'burning service.' You have two choices: you can either send
one of their burners seven CDs, and he will return said discs to you -
free of charge (minus the postage that you will pay for yourself). The
other option is to send one of these burners money, and they will
purchase materials for you, using the funds you give them, and send them
to you with the same funds to purchase postage.

I hope I have been clear on this, I've tried to make it as simple as
possible.

Do not ask again for someone to upload the files to you, as
_you_will_be_ignored._

You could potentially be just as "successful" if you downloaded the roms
from many different places. Like emuchina, Mamefans, Aceroms, WinMX or
alt.binaries.emulators.misc.
NO ONE is going to offer you to download all the mame roms in one big
file. It's just not going to happen, it's a 4,5 gigabyte
download........! No one is going to let you tie up their outgoing
bandwidth for the time it will take to complete the download. Either go
to http://www.tombstones.org.uk and contact one of the burners, or start
downloading manually.

Or you can take a look at this: http://digilander.libero.it/retnyg/

Let me spell this out for you in plain english. You are a FUCKING
IDIOT. Do a search on that word on one of your foreign dictionary
sites if you don't understand that statement.

You are asking the impossible. Nobody on this earth is going to share
that much data with you. Even if I was your best friend in the world
(God forbid), I'd STILL tell you to go fuck yourlsef if you asked me
something that stupid. I don't care if you have 'broadband' and
nobody else does either - it doesn't apply here.

Stop being so lazy and find the roms yourself, like we all did. If
you want to do something 'successful', try learning how files are
stored on your computer and then you'll realize why your request is so
fucking ridiculous. And you'll probably feel like an ass, too -
better you than me!

The next time I see one of your idiot posts in here, I may have to get
rude...

On a 256kbs connection it would take three solid days of downloading.

I'll do you a deal, you tell me what files I can download from you
totalling 4.7gigs and i'll let you get them from me. I want the first
three days, and I want to take them via FTP, so you have got to install

Deal?

could you FTP me that cabinet so i can feel accomplished

id like that feeling as well

i dont think he understands the extent of MAME games out there i only ever
wanted a few games that i could remember playing but if i did want them all
i wouldnt be stupid enough to ask someone to send them to me not if he even
bothered to look at tombstones, you would know that would be a much better
alternative. sheesh just turn the computer on request a set of tombstones
then download something else and pretend your downloading the rom sets

anyone else feel like this guy is taking them into a black hole

Nugent

P.S i really would like the cabinet to be FTP'd to me (just to feel
accomplished with my broadband of course)

Do you expect to find someone who will send you the files UNZIPPED? Not
that that would guarantee that they are complete or up to date, either.
All the Tombstones burners check their ROMs, you can request a set and
get it witout all the hassle you have encountered here. Who cares if you
don't get a feeling of accomplishment? I dl'ed them all (from a nunumber
of different sources), it's really not that special.

Besides, if you really want to feel accomplished, get all the ROMs with
a regular dial-up connection, like some people have done. That is an
effort worth being proud of.

Give me US$50, and I'll put them on my password protected server, and give
you full access for one week (seven days). Should be more than enough time
to download 4435 MB on my 128kb/s DSL line.

Or, send me US$11, and I'll send them to you on CD via Global Priority Mail.

Either way, you should have them in a week.

FFS... he's just ICQ'd me, asking for the entire set to be sent via ICQ.

Let's see...

4572(Mbyte)*8=36576Mbit
36576Mbit*1024=37453824Kbit
37453824Kbit/56kbit=668818seconds
668818s/60=11147Minutes
11147Minutes/60=186Hours
186Hours/24=7.7days.

So, it'll take a week. But that's assuming I get 56k from my modem,
which I don't. I generally get 44k, as I'm quite a distance from my
nearest exchange[1]

So...

4572(Mbyte)*8=36576Mbit
36576Mbit*1024=37453824Kbit
37453824Kbit/44kbit=851223seconds
851223s/60=14187Minutes
14187Minutes/60=236Hours
236Hours/24=9.8days.

ok, so it'll take 9 days.

Then, factor in the 2-hr cutoff period....

*SIGH* Listen. You could have the FASTEST INTERNET CONNECTION IN THE
WHOLE FUCKING WORLD but it wouldn't help you if the person you download
from only had 128kb outbound bandwidth! Your download speed will not get
any faster than his outbound bandwidth.

OK, I'll bite.

So you claim to have a residential internet service with 10Mbit/s (1.25
Megs/second) upload.

I'll have to call bullsh*t on that.

There is no way you that type of connection and are that ignorant of the
nature of information transfer as to actually make a request like you are
making here.

I know I am responding to either a troll or a slow-witted fool, but in any
case, I felt the information here needed to be corrected.

Let's assume you made a mistake and don't actually have 1.25 MB (10Mb)/s
upload, but it is actually your download speed.

What type of connection is it? Cable, DSL, OC, cradle modem?

Does that suit you better than the rotting corpse meat I had for you the
other day?

Sorry again for that, it was an honest mistake.

I always get ghouls and trolls confused. After all, they both feed on what
is base, low, foul, and often even repulsive.

Enjoy the meal, sorry I couldn't make it any more crude, I am far too
sophisticated an idiot for that!

whale and the energy you're putting in the punishment.

Where does he say that's the upload speed? All I can see is a typical AGM
lynch mob going off on one again because someone has come into the group
without properly finding out how to go about usenet. All the references in
the thread regarding his end are download speed, not upload.

You haven't been following the exploits of HONGKONGer here, have you?

Go and google on the user name, and see the various threads he's started
here -- you'll see the AGM "lynch mob" have been unusually restrained in
dealing with him.

He has been persistently aggressive in requesting someone dedicate their
system to upload the entire MAME ROM set to him, despite the fact that
many here have shown that no one has a connection fast enough to do it in
the timeframe he claims is possible.

He has been repeatedly tapped with the cluebat, and yet hasn't learned
that:

a. what he's asking for is a huge imposition,
b. he has a cheap and far faster alternative,
c. he's doing nothing but pissing off an entire group by persisting in
his unreasonable demands.

This is a non-binary newsgroup, which means that it's text only and you
are not allowed to post binaries (=ANY attachments) in here. You can
tell that it's a non-binary newsgroup because it doesn't have the word
"binaries" in its name. Like alt.binaries.emulators.misc for example.

Someone can explain the reasons for the distinctions a lot better than i
can.

OK, in order to have these ROMs in your posession, I'll collect and send you
every single circuit board needed to run these. Since you're young and naieve,
I'll sell them to you at USD$1000 each, price subject to change without notice.
Cash in advance.

Once you start with the first game or two, and have the mainboards in your
hand, then you may start playing the first game.

If I receive information regarding your illegal use of ROM images, I will
prosecute you to the fullest extent of international law.

Why am I nice enough to be doing this?

Because after reading this entire thread, I'm convinced that you are a Noob in
the most stereotypical way.

(Hint: the price above is for the first board. Yes, I'm charging ebay prices.)
