2013 marked the completion of 100 years of Bollywood.[1] It witnessed the release of multiple big-budget films in Bollywood including a number of sequels and quasi-sequels lined up. Some of the notable sequels were: Aashiqui 2, Dhoom 3, Grand Masti, Krrish 3, Murder 3, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai 2, Race 2, Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns, Satya 2, Shootout at Wadala and Yamla Pagla Deewana 2.[2][3]

The soundtrack and film score were composed by Pritam.[20] The album featured nine tracks; lyrics for eight tracks were written by Amitabh Bhattacharya, whereas one song "Dilliwaali Girlfriend" was written by Kumaar.[33] T-Series purchased the film's music rights. The soundtrack album was released through ITunes on 28 April 2013,[34] for paid subscribers and was officially released through digital and physical formats, the following day (29 April 2013).[35][36] The tracks "Badtameez Dil" and "Balam Pichkari" topped the music charts upon release and became chartbusters.[37]
Nokia India announced its association with Dharma Productions for the film.[38] The official trailer was released by Ayan Mukerji, Karan Johar, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone on 19 March 2013 at a press conference in Mumbai. Before its release, Kapoor invited all of his fans to watch the trailer.[39]
Eros distributed Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in Israel. It was subtitled in Hebrew and released on 31 May 2013.[45] The last Bollywood film released in Israel was Devdas (2002).[citation needed]
The film's television release had been stalled. The Delhi High Court on 11 June 2013 issued a ruling restraining the TV release of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani for allegedly using objectionable dialogues in context of the brand Rooh Afza.[62][63][64][65]
Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani collected around $4 million on its international opening weekend and is ranked #2 in 2013.[86][87] The film collected $1,568,677 at the US box office, opening in at #9 position with an average of $9,743 from 161 theatres.[88][89] It continued its successful run and netted around $7.5 million in ten days.[90] Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani grossed $8.75 million in 17 days in overseas.[91] It grossed $9.50 million in 24 days in overseas.[14][15] Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani finished at $10.50 million approx.[13][92]

Maneesh Sharma.'s recent film, Shuddh Desi Romance (Pure Indian Romance, hereafter SDR, 2013), begins with a montage of hands--those of heterosexual Indian couples who either hold or reach out to hold one another's in public. This beginning itself marks a shift in the changing mores of India in the twenty-first century, where acts previously considered "private" are now increasingly on public display. This film, Sharma's third, following Band Baaja Ramat (hereafter BBB, 2010) and Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl (hereafter Ladies, 2011), is again concerned with the relationships of young people in contemporary, urban India, following as it does the back-and-forth romantic relationships of Raghu (Sushant Singh Rajput) with two women, Gayatri (Parineeti Chopra) and Tara (Vaani Kapoor), who enter and exit his life almost as haphazardly as his feelings for them develop (and dissipate). Raghu first meets Gayatri en route to his arranged wedding with Tara and, following a brief exchange of kisses and cigarettes with Gayatri on the bus, he arrives at his wedding only to flee, leaving Tara alone at the altar with the garland she was to place around his neck. Following this foiled wedding, Raghu pursues a relationship with Gayatri which also leads to a planned wedding, only this time Gayatri flees at the last minute, leaving Raghu stranded. Raghu subsequently reencounters Tara (at another wedding) and, just as they begin to grow attracted to one another and decide to finally wed, Gayatri reappears, again confusing Raghu who ultimately (again) leaves Tara for Gayatri.
