Can't argue with you about the "weak" library (I presume you are referring
to the lack of sports and RPG games currently available), but I do have to ask
how you broke a Lynx Classic twice. I've owned two Lynx Classics and one Lynx
II, and the only thing resembling tender loving care has been to carry them
around in carrying cases. The only problems I've ever had was with the first
Lynx Classic -- a little scrating on the case, and breaking the pins on the
cartridge door. Aaside from that, there's been no problems, even after
dropping them a few times.

(Some people really put their Lynxes through Hell. The craziest story I've
heard was of the guy who walked into a store, carrying a Lynx that had been
run over with a 4WD off-road vehicle and coated in mud. Some of the buttons
were falling off, and the thing looked like a classic case of "How NOT to
Handle Consumer Electronics". The guy, of course, wanted to know if his Lynx
could be fixed...)

All I can say about the TurboExpress screen is to repeat what other TE
owners have said -- smaller graphics on some games is hard or impossible to
see on the TE screen. MILITARY MADNESS is the most often-cited example.

Predictably enough (grin), I'd say to go with the Lynx. With common-sense
care, a Lynx should last you a long time, and the weak points in the game
library are getting patched soon. It costs less, has an easier-to-view
screen, and you know Lynx games are designed for portable play.

Since when is $149 real expensive? (Which includes 4 games) Last I recall
the Lynx was $99 with 1 game.

Since when was the TurboExpress $149?

The current prices are:
TurboExpress -- $199 Comes with unit alone, but TTI has a deal
where they will send you four games for
free. Pick four from a list of six
games(1).
Atari Lynx -- $129 Comes with unit, ComLynx cable, AC
adaptor, carrying pouch, CALIFORNIA
GAMES. Also get BATMAN RETURNS for free
if you buy between now and September.
Atari Lynx -- $99 Comes with the unit alone. Also get
BATMAN RETURNS for free if you buy
between now and September.

(1) The four games must be from the following list: PAC-LAND, VICTORY RUN,
ALIEN CRUSH, FANTASY ZONE, VIGILANTE, and POWER GOLF.

Corrections are welcome.

Are there more than one 'Deluxe Package' out there? I just purchased my
unit this week, and it did not include the AC adaptor (had batteries
though...). The box states that the AC adaptor is 'not included.' Is the AC
adaptor now standard issue in newer deluxe packages? If so, I am a bit
miffed! :-| Can someone please clarify for me?

Thanks.

Mea culpa. The AC adaptor _used_ to be in the Deluxe packages, but no
longer. The 6 AA Alkaline batteries are the replacement instead. I just
happen to type "AC adaptor" by reflex in my original message above. Sorry for
any confusion this may have caused.

Still a great deal, IMO. AC adaptors don't cost that much.

In a recent advertizement TTI shows an ad w/the CD and the TE. (I don't have
it in front of me.)

I do stand corrected. It wasn't the 4 game deal.

Also the stores around here do not have the 149 price yet either.
But they still have the 199 w/4 games.

The latest Turbo Technologies ad I've seen ("You're not exactly in Kansas
Any More, Kid") clearly lists the TurboExpress for $199, with the four game
offer. I don't think TTI has ever dropped the 'Express to less than that.

There is also a blurb in the newest GAMEPRO about how Sega will introduce a
Game Gear-unit only package for $99. Gee, talk about deja vu...

Directly from TTI: Club Turbo, Catalog of Games
IE: not in any magazine.

Title: Two great offers, they show the CD and the TE, and $149 on the mid
upper right.

Now this could mean a few things:
Cleaver advertizing: CD is 149 and no price is shown for the TE
or
The TE will be reduced in price. Because this is brand new information
it may be an upcoming thing.

But as I said this is the ad that I saw. So I call 'em as I see 'em.

Even at the current price $199, the TE is by no means a bad deal
when 4 games are included. IMHO. Definitely a nicer picture than my
friends Lynx.

Thats too bad that the AC adapter is no included. It used to be included
in the older Deluxe packages and was really usefull for me. (I don't like
to run off of batteries too often) Of course, I just happened to have
an extra adapter laying around (Radio Shack cheepie) so I now have 2 adapters
but, I think atari should have kept the adapters in the deal. Ah well...

Anyhow, I also have another reson to post. I am thinking of trading my
checkered flag game for another game... anyone interested???

I already have warbirds, klax, rygar, and apb. email me if you have something
to trade....

Does anybody know where I can get one of these deluxe packages? I can't find
any places around Seattle that has them. Any mail-order places?

The Lynx package with the AC adaptor is still available in some areas.
I bought the Lynx package with the AC adaptor about a month ago. It
was available at both my local Babbages and Electronics Boutique.

E.B. sent out an advert a couple months ago that advertised the
Lynx package as coming with the AC adaptor, but in parenthesis it said
something about batteries may be substituted in some cases/areas, or
something like that.

If I were to do it again, I probably wouldn't get the deluxe package.
At my E.B., you can get the plain Lynx for $90. I've already upgraded
my Lynx carrying case, so the case that came with the deluxe package
is obsolete. I don't use the comlynx cable, and probably had a
workable AC adaptor already. So, I figure $90 for the Lynx and $20 for
the deluxe carrying case. This leaves you $20 (if you're comparing
costs against the Deluxe package) to get a game of at least the quality
of California Games, which isn't hard to do. If you don't already have
an adaptor that'll work, it still give's you $10 towards a game, which
some may argue is better than getting Calif. Games.

I agree that the Deluxe package is the better deal and have no regrets
about buying it. I just don't think I'll take advantage of the entire
package (the comlynx cable and the case anyway).

Happy Lynxing,

- Sully.

I played Strider for the Genesis a while back. While
playing the game I discovered something very odd. On the
level (I can't remember the #) with all the exploding bombs,
I found a weird looking creature behind some explosives. It
looked like a small panda bear. I saw it come out of the
hatch in the background. He steps out looks left and right
and then steps back in the hatch and disapears. It appeared
to have no significance to the game. I could not touch it or
anything. If others have noticed this, what is it?

(It is located on the far left of the room with all the
explosives, behind some explosives.)
And no I'm not crazy!

Crazy? I was crazy once.... Eric

Actually, I found "doing the homework" made putting it together, cheaper than
buying the Deluxe package. I shopped for the best price on the individual
items and the zipped over to "The Good Guys", where they'll meet or beat a
competing price, and put together everything but the Cal. Games (which I
didn't want) for cheaper than either ElBo. or GoodGuys wanted for the Deluxe
kit. I was then able to talk the wife into *two* games to start with! :)

P.S. I have received the requests, just haven't had the time lately. Part 2
of my review of LYNX Casino (focusing on BJ) will be coming soon,
hopefully this weekend...
