Press and keep pressed the secondary weopon button, the harppon will
fire and you will be given a different view of the AT-AT and your
speeder circling it, you will need to keep your nose down and turn
hard left/right to perform the circling. When you get told to release
the harpoon, release the secondary fire button.

Actually, you only have to press the secondary weapon button once. You don't
need to keep it pressed. Once the harpoon is away and attached, your ready to
bring down the AT-AT. And, when it's ready to go down, you don't have to do
anything else. No need to press the button again.
At least, that's the way it is on the PC version....

Hhhmmm....not on my version of Rogue (PC, that is). One press of the 2d weapon
button releases the harpoon. I've never had to keep it pressed down, nor have
I had to release the button in order to disengage the cable to topple the
AT-AT. I've played all the missions dozens of times and the same way. Never
had to keep the button pressed. Now, if you fly too far away from the AT-AT,
the cable will release itself and you have to fly back and re-attach it, but I
have never had to keep the button pressed in order to keep the cable attached.
Maybe it's different for the N64/PlayStation versions.......
I am flying with a Microsoft SW3D Pro.

Have you tried not keeping the button pressed? Maybe it's a matter of how
close you fly to the AT-AT. I keep my turns very tight, practically right
against the AT-AT. Maybe the farther away you fly is the factor. All I know is
that I have never had to keep the button pressed. The only time the cable
comes unattached is when I fly too far away from the AT-AT.
No big deal, really. I just find it much easier to fly if I have no extra
buttons to be worrying about.

I keep my turns tight and you do need to keep the button pressed. It's
hardly a big deal, though it does make it harder for beginners to
catch on to how to take out the AT-ATs, I know I found it hard to work
out.

a few suggestions:-
1) Approach the AT-AT from behind so it does blast you.
2) Have more time by taking out all those ties a lot quicker!
3) The common flaw I have seen with beginners firing at Ties is that
they fire at them and not at where they are going, hence they miss.

Martin is pretty much right here. In this level, you have to hop all over the
place and pretty quickly. His advice on the AT-AT is good for all encounters
with the AT-AT: always approach from the rear and fly low and tight when
wrapping the cable. Keeps the AT-AT from hitting you.
When trying to nail the bombers, try not to get sucked into chasing them
around the buildings. I started out doing that and wasted time because they
are faster than the speeder. Try to anticipate -where- they are going and jump
there to intercept them as they come around the building. Shaves precious
seconds off of your time and gives you a better target to hit.
This mission is a target-rich one with a serious time limit. I had to fly this
one several times before I got the hang of taking down the AT-AT. And getting
the bonus was no piece of cake, as you had to do some pretty tricky flying in
a tight area.
I didn't realise you had to go round and round, now all is clear. Pretty
good game !

Well, I'm glad I was some help. :> And it -is- a great game. It was all I was
playing until RACER showed up. Now, I can't stop playing -THAT- game! :>
Pity Jake Lloyd is so jumped-up in real life.
