For everyone having problems running this combination under DirectX 6.1,
there is an easy fix (without uninstalling 6.1). Open the RS CD in Windows
Explorer, and look in the DirectX folder. You will see the files (including
.DLLs) of DX 6.0 - as long as you have Show All Files turned on in Explorer.
Copy all of the DLL files beginning D3D or DDRAW (i.e. D3D*.DLL and
DDRAW*.DLL) into the Rogue Squadron folder on your hard disk.

The game then runs perfectly (high res., no corruption of text or graphics,
no returning to desktop etc.). I am using the Glide driver at 1024x768, 22
bit colour selected and it looks superb!

Hope this works for other people.

Nick

Hi Nick,
Thanks for the tip.
It fixed my problem with the text in RS.
Cheers again.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Finally, a fix that actually works!

I tried all the "turn Direct 3D off, etc." and "uninstall, reinstall" fixes
to no avail. I thought that nobody would ever come up with the real fix.
Again, many thanks.

Now that you have this running, how do you like the game? Is it worth the
price of admission?

Basically, it's not bad for a basic shoot-em-up with a Star Wars flavor.
Not a lot of strategy involved, but it does look nice.

I had this working for some time before I got my Voodoo3, so I have quite a
bit of time logged on the game. I guess I'd sum it up by saying that it's a
pretty good game, but if you don't have X-Wing Alliance, that's a better
game. Superb graphics, more strategy involved.
