I am getting try of using the CD just to play online. Is there a NoCD
patch to avoid this? I know it works for single player, but it doesn't
work for multiplayer that I can find.

Thank you in advance. :)

As far as I know, anything that alters the executable disallows you from
'pure servers'.

The no cd thing is tricky - I understand that there is some desire to help
stop piracy, but there are some real reasons not to use the CD. When I
first got JK/MotS years ago, I had a ultra-portable Toshiba, and it had no
built-in CD. So to play while I traveled, I needed a no cd solution. JK
had one, but I had to download a patch for MotS ...

What is so difficult about putting a CD into the drive, unless you don't
have one ???

Because I get annoyed when switching CDs. I always have my MP3 CD in the
drive and I rarely take it out.

Grow up, LR. Not everyone is a thief. It's a legitimate question.
Swapping CDs sucks. Period. Most games only require them for
authentication now, anyway. www.megagames.com has patches that allow you to
play your legally purchased game without the annoyance of finding the right
CD.

LoneRiver.... Get a clue.

Does the nocd patch from megagames.com work online? I tried many. If so, then
which one?

I don't think there are any that work. There definitely aren't any that
work with 1.0.1.

No need to be so harsh - unfortunately, while there are many people who like
to not use a CD for games in some cases (like I mentioned earlier, with a
laptop that has no built-in CD drive), it is unfortunate that many more
people are looking to pirate the game. And, as we have seen, there are many
people who have posted here who had illegal beta versions and who also have
obtained the final version without payment.

I always try to assume innocence first, unless there is clear indication of
piracy.

It's a pain to have to swap out CDs, and use increases the chance for
damage.

Try copying the MP3's to the hard disk, then it is permanently in. Or buy a
new drive, they are not too expensive.

If they are cared for appropriately they will last ... I have never had a CD
wear out on me yet, I simply take care of them, always put them away etc...
In fact I have some that I use as coasters (one I no longer need) and they
still work when I clean them.

Wow. Good for you. You do what you want, and let others worry about
themselves. Leave the judgment to a higher power, and your life will be
more fulfilling.

True, but even the most careful can make a mistake, and it only takes one
well placed scratch to cause problems. I suppose that is can't be as easy
as making an ISO of the disk and using Daemon's Tools to mount the disk in
a virtual CD? That's what I do with JO, partially because my actual CD is
a bit scuffed.

Yay for you Mr Perfect. I guess the easy solution is for all of us
ham-handed freaks. Of course ham-handed freaks are people too. Swapping
cd's is a pain. Maybe not a big deal for someone who doesn't have to do it
that much, but I'm not THAT GUY. I have downloaded one that doesn't work
and two viruses, doh!

New to this newsgroup and I just found this thread. My question would be -
does copying the CD using a program like CloneCD 4 work? I've had 'some'
success using it years ago for the few games I have - but have not tried it
lately for anything new I've gotten, mostly because I just found my keycode
for my CloneCD version finally after many months of looking.

I prefer to load the game from the original - then clone them - then put the
original away for good and use the clones to preserve the originals from
accidents, drops, etc.

And trust me - I just got a DVD today from NetFlix that has a HUGE crack in
it and the DVD players (my PC - my wife's PC and our DVD player) cannot read
from it. The DVD now is a coaster getting sent back to them. So they're
not unbreakable and things can happen to them!
