I've finished IWD and IWD2. In playing IWD2, I got an idea (from the legends
written here and there) about what goes on during HOW. But I'm hesitant to
buy HOW because I've heard that it doesn't work well with Windows XP -- and
I'm NOT going to switch operating systems!

Are the rumors true? Is HOW truly incompatible with WinXP?

I have never had any trouble running any of the BG, IWD, or PS series
under win xp.

If you do purchase HOW remeber to download Trials of the Luremaster as well.

I've just installed IWD and HoW today on WinXP today and both seem to
work fine. I've heard that TotL is a wast of time, but each to his own.
BG on the other hand seem sto be mostly incompatible:

I have had no problem with any Interplay/Black Isle game on XP. This
includes IWD, HOW, IWD2, BG, TOTSC, BG2, TOB, PST.

TOTL adds extra content with some more high level spells and patches it
higher than the HoW patches.

Can either of the IWD games be played online where I would control some
members of the party and someone else(in a different state, also with a
broadband connection) would control the other members?

I had a LOT of problems getting IWD to intall and play on XP, but
there are patches you'll have to google for - including an english-only
patch I needed - and you'll have to use the XP compatibility app in XP

I ran the whole series on Win XP with no problems. Just make sure you
are using the latest patch
