Ok, I hit the darned pause for movie/dialog and never unpause. I
first hit it when I killed Malavon Part One <g> before the dialog.
Everyone but the stealthed thief was out of view. Paladin advanced
to get the dialog, and Thief did a critical backstab removing
Malavon's essence from the material plane just after the dialog
ended. No problem, exit, reload, let him talk, retreat and deal
with the Iron Golems and Umber Hulks, then ice him to get Malavon
Part Two and no problems.

Now it is the end of Chapter 6, I have all the badges and have gone
up the spiral stair. Thief scouts ahead and runs the perimeter,
seeing RBP and a bunch of animals in a wonderful parody of Druidism.
Thief returns to party. Ok, let's get ready to rumble! Someone
with this hard to reach has got to be a real bad dude, and all
dialog indications from deep gnomes and the like support this
assumption. According to the Odd not-so-Little Girl with the
unspellable name her ancient enemy is at work... RBP is not who he
seems, indicating he is quite possibly extra-planar if not the
ancient enemy himself. We are gonna pull out the stops and kick
some off-plane butt! Mage conjures up a pair of Earth Elementals
and a Fire Elemental, Priest pops off a Protection from Evil 10ft
Radius, Bless, and Defensive Harmony. Paladin puts away Pale
Justice, thinking the +4 Life Giver with the rapid regeneration and
chance for healing might be a better choice. Those with bows pull
out the remaining Arrows of Penetration +4 and the few remaining
other magical projectiles. Ranger and Paladin quaff Giant Strength
potions.

We advance to get the dialog, then the party fans out into an arc.
Archers fire, Elementals advance. We all get toasty from some kind
of cone of flame. Mage and Bard fire off a Chromatic Orb, Ranger an
Entangle. We weren't sure if the animals would go hostile, and
wanted to slow them down... Maybe charm the bears... but they are
already dead. Out of the wings summoned creatures appear. They go
after the Elementals pummeling RBP. Bowmen target them,
concentrating on the hostile Earth Elemental with their magic
arrows. Bard throws a stinking cloud right around RBP figuring it
will at least slow down the tide, Mage sends in an Acid Arrow on
RBP. Two Elementals down, third hurt bad. Another wave of summoned
creatures come to RBP's aid. Bard tosses a Skull Trap behind RBP,
Mage centers an Acid Cloud on him. Thief keeps plucking away at RBP
with his short bow and Arrows of Penetration, Paladin, Priest, and
Ranger fan out to meet the summoned creatures in melee, Ranger
tosses and Entangle around RBP to maybe hold things in the Acid
Cloud longer. Bard and Mage toss off chromatic Orbs, Magic
Missiles, Acid Arrows, and Ice Lances to try to stem the tide as a
third and fourth wave of summoned aid to RBP comes in. One will
cast on RBP, the other on one of his summoned help. RBP has been
reading Almost Dead for a long time. RBP Dimension Doors out, cut
scene starts. Cut scene ends, and we are still in paused for movie
mode and can't get out. Characters start complaining we should do
something, but I have no control.

Reload, try again. Figuring that we missed a parting dialog we
forgo the area effect damage spells and the Paladin charges up with
the Elementals to melee RBP, counting on the +4 Life Giver to keep
him ticking longer with all the summoned creatures attacking him.
Priest goes left to meet the Bone Guard Skeletons with his nifty
magic flail, Ranger goes right to meet the Frost Salamanders. Thief
supports Ranger with missile fire, Bard and Mage alternate direct
fire spells on the summoned creatures and RBP. RBP Dimension Doors
out, cut scene starts. Cut scene ends, and we are still in paused
for movie mode and can't get out. Characters start complaining we
should do something, but I have no control.

Reload, try again -- maybe we put too much hurt on RBP. As soon as
he reads Hurt everyone but the Thief targets something else, Thief
uses normal arrows. Paladin meets the Earth Elementals and
Minotaurs, but stays close to RBP. We are getting creamed by all
the summoned creatures, their numbers are growing faster than we are
putting them down. The Ranger is almost dead and out of potions, so
the Bard puts her in Otiluke's Resilient Sphere. RBP Dimension
Doors out, cut scene starts. Cut scene ends, and we are still in
paused for movie mode and can't get out. Characters start
complaining we should do something, but I have no control.

Reload, try again -- maybe the Otiluke's Resilient Sphere hosed
things up. As before, but despite increased support to the Ranger
she dies. RBP Dimension Doors out, cut scene starts. Cut scene
ends, and we are still in paused for movie mode and can't get out.
Characters start complaining we should do something, but I have no
control.

Reload, try again -- maybe one of my pauses got things stuck. Turn
off all auto-pauses and discipline myself to not pause the fight at
all. Turn on the Party AI and basically just watch after the first
two rounds. Party gets worked over real good, four dead and two
pretty darn close to it. RBP Dimension Doors out, cut scene starts.
Cut scene ends, and we are still in paused for movie mode and can't
get out. Characters start complaining we should do something, but I
have no control.

Reload, try again -- maybe if I terminate the cut scene we'll be ok.
RBP Dimension Doors out, cut scene starts. Cut scene stopped, and
we are still in paused for movie mode and can't get out. Characters
start complaining we should do something, but I have no control.

Reboot, reload, try again -- maybe system has gotten goofy for some
reason. RBP Dimension Doors out, cut scene starts. Cut scene
stopped, and we are still in paused for movie mode and can't get
out. Characters start complaining we should do something, but I
have no control.

Reload from earlier save, try again -- maybe there is something
wrong with the save file. RBP Dimension Doors out, cut scene
starts. Cut scene ends, and we are still in paused for movie mode
and can't get out. Characters start complaining we should do
something, but I have no control.

Reload from even earlier save, try again. RBP Dimension Doors out,
cut scene starts. Cut scene ends, and we are still in paused for
movie mode and can't get out. Characters start complaining we
should do something, but I have no control.

I am starting to feel like I am in a time loop! This is damn
frustrating! Any ideas? I have applied both patches before
beginning this game. I am not running in Open/GL mode. AMD K6-2
500 mhz, Voodoo3/3000 16mb with latest drivers, 256mb RAM, plenty of
free disk space. Everything checks out fine, I am no neophyte to
PCs. It is one thing to be stopped from advancing by a battle you
can't handle, but quite another to be stopped by a bug!

You didnt say which patch you were using.

I'm using 1.05 on a p3 with lots of memory and had no problems. You could
try 1.05 if you're not patched or on 1.06 (rumour seems to have it that 1.06
is rather buiggy so I didnt use it). Alternatively if you are on 1.05 try
1.06 because that is supposed to fix some problem with movies not un-pausing
(not that I had that problem myself).

BTW You must be a martyr if you really re-tried that many times. If that had
happened to me it would have had a couple of tries and then I would have
re-patched and if that didnt work in the bin it goes. But it didnt - all
worked perfectly for me.

I am using 1.06 as 1.05 did not really fix the dialog problem with
Orrick upon giving him the book on Mythal Theory.

I had no problem with 1.05 and Orrick and the book. Anyway, now you've done
that, why not try patching back to 1.05 and seeing if that fixes it. Other
things to check are free space on your C: drive.

That's all I can think of really.

This has to be a problem with the newest patch. I have v1.06 and I get stuck
in movie pause after the first battle with Polquien as well. It takes me to
the frozen town but I can't do anything. I tried to re-apply the 1.05 patch,
but it didn't work so it's either wait for v1.07 or uninstall, then
re-install up to 1.05!

Try hitting space during the movie. I ran into the same problem; what finally
worked was going back to an earlier save and hitting space during the movie.
Either I got lucky and picked the first save that would work or hitting space
solved it.

Had same problem. Emailed Interplay Support.
Their response:
"Thank you for your interest in Interplay Entertainment Corp. The problem
that you have described is becoming a fairly common problem with this game.
We have found what is a possible work around for the problem. The first
suggestion is that you start the game, take a step forward before initiating
the dialogue, and press 'Q' to Quick Save. Once the game is saved, leave
and load the Quick Save.
If that does not work, load up your saved game, then save it again to a
different save slot. Once it's saved, exit and load that save slot and it
should continue."

This fixed it for me and I made it back in control in Easthaven.

I had movie pause problems as descride by the initiator before I
patched to 1.05. Since then Ive had a couple of hangs at random times,
but by an large its fine. I havent gone for 1.06 for the same reason
as you.

I had no problems completing the mythal quest with 1.05. I havent got
as far as the battle described above yet though.

I had to patch from 1.05 to 1.06 due the reason that my Dwarf-fighter's
(with very high constitution) Hit points went below zero sometimes when I
loaded a game. He wasn't "dead" but a "living-dead" :)
The character image was grey like he was dead, but I still could move him
and attack and stuff. Items were the only thing I couldn't do anything with.
It's a bit shame I had to patch to get rid off this, 'cause he became an
amazing killing-machine. (Killed the odd-little girl end-scenes every
opponent alone in very little time, without getting any damage... well.. he
was dead :)

Never had any movie problems though.
