How many people have this working? How many don't? I did a bit of server
hopping last night, and it seems like few people can get it to work good. In
one server, there was this guy that sounded like he was sitting in the chair
next to me, he sounded so good, but everyone else sounded like crap, badly
broken up, or they couldn't get it to work at all. The general developing
consensus seems to be that it works good for some, works crappy for most,
and doesnt' work at all for the rest of us. Comments?

Cant get it to work at all. I get a device error, (MMSYSTEM004 The
specified device is already in use. Wait until it is free, and then
try again. Unable to initialize waveIn. Trying DirectSound. Unable to
initialize wave input. You wont be able to speak to other players
through a microphone.)
Anyone have any ideas?

Works absolutely beautiful for me! And I only have a $12.00 headset that I
bought as an experiment to see if Roger-Wilco worked OK. My predictions for
public server use have come true though. Later in the evening I tried a
public server, local to me, for a nice low ping game. Much to my surprise, I
was bombarded with gansta-rap spamming, instead of what could have been an
organised, teamplay effort :-(

Oh, so now there's something wrong with gangsta rap spamming?

The general developing consensus here is that it works for most, especially
if you disable A3D. The sound from other people is nothing to do with HL,
it's to do with them setting their mikes up properly. Those of us who have
used RW regularly seem impressed by the ingame sound - a little muted by
default, but clearer than RW and *way* better integrated.

It's going to revolutionise CS - already tonight me, Asni and Nilz have
encountered a german guy who was happy to join in (and kill us a lot, too,
it has to be said) - makes for very friendly games...

Not to be picky but gangsta rappers don't say "yo". "Yo" is east coast

It was just a joke. East has one of the originators, Kool G. Rap, C-N-N,
M.O.P., 50 Cent, and many others. But still "yo" is primarily East Coast
slang, and "yo" in that context you used is just an easier way of saying
"your", not "you", and separate from the slang "yo"...

I found it to be more garbled and harder to hear than RW. Possible cause
of lag spikes for me too.
Be a better test tonight I hope but I haven't been impressed yet. Being
able to coordinate with some fellow players is nice though.
Anyone find that the HL:CS game screen is getting to be a busy place
with ammo and health levels, radar to check for friendlies, voice comm
status to see whose talking.
Barely have time to shoot anyone.
Just call me Bait. Be the guy still at respawn trying to talk to
everyone and organize while I get run over by the freight train called
"RUSHERS".

This usually means that your sound card is operating in half-duplex mode. In
other words, it can't play two sound waves at the same time. This could
usually be fixed by updated drivers. But then again, if you're running
budget sound cards or whatever, you're probably dealing with a sound card
that can't support it natively through hardware/software combined.

Ah, following in the footsteps of the near legendary Mr_Whoopass, who's
famous 'cs_assault' monitor commentary has been heard in aghl bashes for
over a year. Admittedly it was only for those using RW; now at last such
precision broadcasting can have the wider audience that such skill
deserves.

Now we've just got to get the hang of covering him, rather than letting him
get gunned down by a lone CT infiltrator while his head is buried in the
monitor...

This is strange... I could hear strider, asni and neat_pete (well, when he
lifted his mic up) well; nilz was clear too, whereas you were faint yet
audible (when the gunfire stopped). Whoopass was perfectly audible too, so
it's not a transatlantic thing... maybe it *is* just an accent thing.

I'm noted for my colourful language, but luckily for AGHL Valve saw fit
to make HL Voice press to talk.

Unfortunately I haven't seen many talkative or even team-orientated
players, they're all out there for the kills.
Besides I guess if I wanted more talkative players I should join English

when I was helping nilz get his working (and checking mine) I would speak,
then he would just look at me.
after a minute, a normal message appeared:
"how do I get this to work?"
