Arg I am hating this game so far! I loved HL and Blue SHift was really
cool (but too short), but opposing force pisses me off because as a
military / black ops guy I expected this one to be a hardcore fighting
and blowing shit up game instead I have spent the first 3 levels
pushing boxes around and jumping around like a damn bunny... and I
SUCK at jumps so I spend lots of time reloading ;(

Here is my dilemma - I am on 3rd chapter. Right after you see the
plane take off and the G-man closes the hanger door on you so you
can't get out. 3 aliens show up, you kill them and go through a hole
in the wall. Inside is a bunch of pipes that you have to crawl under.
You kill a headcrab and 2 more aliens and you are left in a room with
a couple of crates aand a vent shaft directly above you. The crates
hold batteries so the urge is to bust them up for the 30 points of
armor, but you need at least one (I assume) to jump up to the vent
shaft.

I am guessing you need to jump up and tuck your legs in (crouch) to
get up inside there, but try as I might I cannot get into that damn
vent shaft. I have tried over and over again and the frustrating part
is when you miss you have to climb back up on the crate which slides
around if you bump into it. grrr... so it takes like 30 seconds every
time to re line up for a new jump.

If any body knows the spot I am talking about and has some advice on
jumping up in there please reply to this message. All of the walkthrus
I find just tell you to jump up in there as though it was a piece of
cake... no explanation of "how" you should correctly get up in there.

Anyway thanks for any help you can give!

Sorry, not sure where you are.
The game is a bit heavy on crate dependancy though.
How did you like the part in the office complex where you needed to carry
around the same damn box for about fifteen minutes so you could reuse it
over and over and over again?

If you are where I think you are (the room with some slippery ice or oil on
the floor), you can smash all the crates you want. To get out of the room,
you need to jump up on some pipework that forms a ladder up to a vent in
the wall. Straight ahead of where you entered the room IIRC.

Push the crate all the way up to the wall in line with the vent, pull it
back a little from the wall, jump onto the crate, then jump and crouch to
the vent. If it don`t work the first time re-do the above then pull the
crate back a little further than before.

That did the trick! Thanks figaro!

Cannot believe I wasted so much time on that useless vent!!! ;(

BTW - the game picks up MUCH better after that section (including the
previously mentioned "carry the crate" through the office complex ;).
Now that I ran into the black ops guys and the assassin chicks the
action has picked up and is more run N gun... I Likey hehe;)

Thanks to everyone who posted giving me suggestions!!!
