...I bought SWAT 3 yesterday and I love it! What an underrated little
gem this was. Beautiful graphics, very realistic maps and excellent
AI. If they can maintain this level of quality in the upcoming
multiplayer add-on, then I think Sierra have another winner on their
hands. Thanks for the tip, Wild.

I love to C2 a door, throw in some flashbangs or a gas grenade, scream
"Get down on the ground now!", then move in with my team and handcuff
the bad guys. And it`s all smooth and intuitive. I wish CS was like
this or even came close... :)
See you - Anders.

Glad to be of service.

I think the lack of multiplay killed the appeal for a lot of people - but
see past that, and you have a fantastic game - astonishingly gripping
considering the lack of full on fast n furious action, huge arsenals of
weaponry etc.

I often find with games I really like, I find myrself wanting the best of
their features in other games - in CS, I want tear gas, and the compliance
command - plus that beautifully intuitive messaging interface from SWAT3 (is
it me, or are sierra really just top notch at that - Homeworld is another
example of an interface that carries out fairly complex instructions, and
yet is so well designed you know it inside of a few minutes play). I'm
missing AHL's dives in SWAT3 though, I have to say...

Quick poll - My current bugbear mission is the hotel hostage rescue - anyone
else stuck on one they just *can't* get past?

:D The messages actually change too, if your guys are particularly stressed
they yell "Drop the weapon moron! Do it now!"

Check out the mods too - the splatterpack is recommended (no, I'm not a
ghoul, it just helps see how much damage your guys/the bad guys have taken -
much more easily than the tiny red dots that are the game's default) and the
Powersounds pack is excellent - unichanger is a must have if you like to do
your missions as the GSG9, or in short sleeves (well it is nearly summer
:D). Check out the mods at http://fp.worldonline.dk/fpecjahn/Index2.htm

Blue, hold what you got, provide cover

Red Team, keep it going, move and clear!

So tell me, Wild, if this game is so damn good (and I know it is), how come
it's taken you until now to buy it? You were going on about SWAT3 waaaay
before it came out (enough to make me check it out too), yet you've waited
this long? How come?

I agree. They more or less admitted that they left multiplayer out in
order to meet the christmas deadline, but considering the opposition
they had this christmas (Q3 and UT with heavy multiplay emphasis), I
think it would have been better to wait until it was finished.

I really like the fact that it`s slower than the average FPS and you
really *need* the team. I tried the "lone wolf" approach on some
missions and it was insanely difficult, just like it should be.

The order system is very neat and easy to use. I guess there`s
something wrong with me, but I find myself wanting more blood and gore
as usual. I really am a nice person in real life though. Honest!

Sorry, can`t help you there. Not yet anyway. I find myself getting
"mission failed", even when I appear to do everything right though,
which I think is a little puzzling

Oh yes, I`ve shot lots of holes in several mirrors and then realizing
that I was looking at myself... :)

BTW, am I the only one who is really trigger-happy? On one map when I
was leading my team up some dark stairs, a hostage threw open a door
and came running towards me. I just shot the fellow full of bullets
and then mission control told me over the radio that I had failed the
mission... :(

Not as ghoulish as it sounds - without it it's very hard to know how much
damage your officers/suspects have taken - killing suspects can reduce your
overall score you know... there are several mods that enhance the bullet
effects - my current pick is the splatterpack, but ProSwat, and Genocide's
megamod have this feature (among others) too I like the splatterpack because
it doesn't mess too much with the gmae data itself -
http://fp.worldonline.dk/fpecjahn/Index2.htm for most of your SWAT3 mod
needs...

Report in *every* suspect & civilian - and check mission status frequently
to see what you need to do (default key is B) the ones where you need to
recover weapons at the scene can be tricky - remember that SWAT's
environments are interactive, so check anything that opens....

Same old reasons, money and time :( I plyed the demo mission to death (and
while good, it is far from the best in the game, imho) I went to get it in
January but the store had sold out - they had lots of copies of UT though,
and I can resist anything but temptation... my next attempt found it out of
stock once more, but a copy of System Shock 2 somehow found it's way to the
cashdesk with me...

Finally, I heard about Battleplan - loaded up the demo just to ensure that
the game was total 0\/\//\//\93, and having satisfied myself that this was
indeed the case, went off to buy it. It's been keeping my non AHL time
filled ever since....

I'm more the opposite - I gas 'em, and then shout for them to surrender -
I'm usually still shouting when they plug me.... I'm just too damned nice...

"RED to lead, officer down, officer down!"

I'm learning to love the Colt they give you as a secondary though, use that
for long range, and the shottie as primary for close up...oh and the two
ammo types is great...

From the FAQ at http://sierrastudios.com/games/swat3/gameplay-faq.html#lapd

Begin Quoted Section
----------------------------------
*How can I become a LAPD SWAT officer?*
Officers interested in working SWAT are selected from Metropolitan
Division's field platoons. Typically, there is a SWAT selection process
every two years. Attrition of existing SWAT personnel dictates the actual
number of candidates chosen. The selection procedure consists of two
strenuous physical fitness tests that test strength and endurance. Upon
completion of the physical fitness tests, an oral interview is given to each
applicant. From there, officers are chosen to compete in a week-long
tactical evaluation course.

Officers who receive high scores on selection are then assigned to an
eight-week SWAT school. The training consists of special weapons and tactics
concepts. At the completion of SWAT school, candidates participate in a
real-time training scenario designed to exercise each of the skills learned
in school.

To learn more about joining the LAPD, please visit LAPD Online.
http://www.lapdonline.org/

*Are there any female LAPD SWAT officers?*
SWAT is open to applicants of both genders. As there are many more
applicants than positions, competition is tough. A few women have come
close, but have not ranked high enough during the physical fitness portion
of the application to be selected.
-------------------------------------
End Quoted Section

So at the moment there aren't - I'm surprised that the developers didn't put
some female officers the elements though, given that the game is set in the
future...

Sorry mate - ja has provided as always... :D

I'm far too busy working on my AGHL page for clan hell anyway...see the list
of possible violations runs like this;

Possible violations:
1. Page takes over three hours to load thanks to a shitload of large,
unnecessary graphics that are supposed to show off the clan leader's "l33t
Photoshop skillz".
2. Clan either writes in haX0r lingo, gangsta rap, or pseudo-military terms
they heard from "Full Metal Jacket".
3. Website is overly violent or full of hate, revealing some morbid
fascination with guns and killing.
4. Page is a shrine to clichéd animated gifs or Javascript (usually
coincides with #1).
5. Clan members have trouble distinguishing between fantasy and reality.
6. Clan has some huge, ongoing flame war with another equally idiotic clan.
7. Page layout / color scheme burns your retinas and causes brain damage.
8. Website looks as if it were written by Jeff K.
9. Clan is not competent enough to check for / fix broken links.
10. Site is a tribute to embedded MIDI / sound files.

Now most of the fellows in the directory manage to hit one or two - but with
my extensive knowledge of the llama mind, and a couple of really f*****g big
bitmaps, plus the Aphex Twin's second album in wav format, I reckon AGHL
could do all ten... who's with me?

It's a bit impractical for me most of the time...

or is there a good multiplayer pub simulation? (dont say irc please)
::imagines the blurb for such a game::

You might want to consider putting in a link that opens six new and
completely irrelevant windows in your browser. That stunt usually scores
pretty high on the open irritation-scale. :-)

Make those the pr0n kind that opens up 2-3 additional pop-up windows
when you try to close them. That`s as close to internet terrorism as
you can get.

Go to it son, make your newsgroup proud :)

How are you going to fulfil the flame-war requirement? Oh I know... you
could ask a perfectly reasonable question in AGHLTFC, with a link to your
|_337 message board. That should do it.

borrow a copy of frontpage and use their wonderful
DHTML "slide into place" effects...
(or copy paste the code somewhere - I'm sure I can find some
examples)

I bought the game today, so I definately want to take a look at these.

What can I say about the game? Solid, but uninspired. Doesn`t come
close to HL or Swat 3. Looks alarmingly like SiN (which is a little
scary), but is "saved" by the incredible amount of violence and gore.
It is pretty funny to shoot people in the ass or disarm them, but I
suspect it will get dull soon. The only games I really enjoy right now
are UT and Swat 3...

I did wonder - I played the deom, and I liked that, but I didn't think it
could sustain a whole game...

Oo! I have a pic of the moment for you from SWAT3, I'll zip it up & send it
over sometime.

I can take care of that for you. I own a copy of that software. We can make
every page fade in and swipe out and have each word of text spiral in. That
would be kew|_ !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds good...could someone look me out some satanic animated gifs please?
And a fires of hell background type gif would be lovely, ta.

Sounds like the game Diablo would have a lot of appropriate gif's to fit
that theme.
A quick search of Diablo pages should probably rend quite a few "hell"
themed stuff.

Yeah, the problem with all that stuff is it's probably a little too well
done.. still, i can always llama it up a bit, i s'pose...
