Can't Kill Spider

Is there some sort of trick to killing the big spider on XEN? I've pumped
the sac full of ammo and he refuses to die. I'm also trapped in some sort
of hole. It's got power ups for the HEV suit and weapons, so I know there's
a way out of there. Any help would be much appreciated. Reply to

Use Q to swap weapons between the crowbar (for the crabs he drops) and the
357 (for the egg sack hanging below the spider) He will eventually die.

The hole you're in, one of the other cubby-holes has one of those
litle launch pads on the floor to get you back to the surface. After
that, just keep hitting the spider and eventually she'll run into the
lair, follow and keep beatin' her up eventually she will die!
