A3D Monster Sonic Impact Half-Life

Anyone know the state of play with the A3D sound in Half-Life.

I got the 2.04 (I think) drives and the box now comes on. But the sound
ain't good.

Have read some other posts about the problem, is there any news?

I've heard that the A3D cards (your, my or other brands) give what has
been described as a 'muddy sound' - I agree; After d/l'ding the latest
drivers, my sound was less than stellar with the A3D option (in
Half-LIfe) enabled.

I actually get better sound quality with this option unchecked in
Half-Life, although it doesn't sound as '3D' as is possible in other
games.
