by now everyone knows the gl_zmax 0 cheat that makes some walls
semi-transparent. using that string does not also allow you to shoot
THROUGH them! a bug in half-life allows for shooting though most thin
walls possible but only under 1 (one) condition...your using a powerful
gun (all rifles and the p90 have worked for me) i don't know how to
explain this futher but to say that the zmax exploit has only allowed
you to aim at people you could have killed without the exploit, assuming
you knew when as where to shoot.

hope i cleared some things up.

Take and start up a private LAN server and pick any map you want. Join the
CT team and go save all the hostages until you have enough money to buy an
AWP. Then, go grab some hostages and set them up inside a build or behind a
wall. Go outside where you can see them through the wall and take a head
shot. Interesting results eh?

I've heard that bullet penetration in an upcoming BETA will not only be
based on wall thickness (as it is now),.but also on wall texture. Where a
wood texture will penetrate much easier than a steel texture.

As it stands now, an AWP can penetrate just about any wall a a long
distance. That and the wall cheat is a very dangerous combination.

Sorry to break this too you, but shooting through walls is a
Counter-Strike *feature*, not a bug and certainly not a Half-Life
bug.

Oh, and if you can get the p90 to get through anything thicker then
glass and the smallest edges, well then you're a better man then I.
I can't even get the p90 through the thinest of thin walls on
cs_academy_beta, which has *super* thin walls for the outside

This is not a bug in Half-Life, this is a feature of CS! CS takes into
account the thickness of an object and the power of the bullet at the time it
impacts that object. Based on that there is a chance that a weapon can shoot
through objects. *ANY* gun can do it, just the more powerful guns let you
shoot through thicker objects.

CS.net has a quote(?) from Gooseman stating that B6 will take into account
the material of the item based on the skin it is painted with and adjust the
damage/thickness ratio further so that some objects will not be able to be
shot through at all even if they are relatively thin.

It's about time. Getting shot through what is supposed to be a stone or
concrete
wall is extremely annoying and unrealistic. Now shooting through thin
partitions
and doors is one thing... adds to the realism and also gives some
interesting
strategic options... But i have been TK (by mistake) too often through
walls
by loose bullets...

That's the point! Its impossible to hide in ambush. It destroys the
realism of the game, I could maybe see it as a piece of expensive equipment
or something... But otherwise, its cheating. Its pointless. If you have
to do this to get frags, then you need to take up needlepoint.
For gods sake folks, get a set of balls and stop cheating!

yes all this is true but i was merely pointing out what the wall exploit can
result in, i never stated that shooting through walls was, in it's self, a
cheat but that this trait was being exploited by people using the "cheat" or
gl_zmax 0.

I agree about the P90. The real FN P90 has ballistics very similar to a
.223 rifle (colt/sig) and is flat shooting out to 100 yards. Very nice. If
anything they should change the 50cal DE so it doesn't shoot through walls
(big bullet doesn't mean big penetration) and add a FN FiveSeven pistol to
the line up for a pistol with rifle penetration.

And there is in fact a bug in HL that allows you to shoot through
extremely thin walls with any weapon in any mod. So, he's completely
accurate, although vague. ;-)

alone a wall, regardless of thickness? How is this bug enabled?

I actually find some new motivations playing CS since the cheat is on.
Make the game more challenging playing against cheaters as a
non-cheaters (if at least they would admint they are cheaters...) ;-)

usually cheaters are just people who just can't play without
cheating...

it doesnt make it more challenging...........it just makes it damn annoying!
you have to completly change your playing style (ie. no more hiding behind
walls and boxes), to do well.

Cant agree more FragieSpice ,its bad enough when your the victim but its
also disappointing to respawn with all your team mates and one of them just
starts shooting thru a wall with an awp ,makes you wish more servers had ff
switched on then we would have been able to cap the cheating priks ass and
then get on with a fair game. >:P
Oh and are you the guy (I presume you are with a name as original as that)

Hey, I've learned something more!
Now I can freak even more people out (by knowing stuff about weapons
and recognizing them on tv etc.).

For the anecdote I grew up really close to the big SIG plant. Never even
knew they made weapons in there. When i first saw the SIG name for weapons,
I still didn't make the connection... oh well, ignorance is bliss :)

Frayed knot - Fabrique Nationale is a Belgian company (the judderbar of
European warfare).

H&K, originally a German outfit, are now owned by Vickers Ordnance UK, and
have most of their factories in the US now I believe.

Sig Sauer are Swedish?

Colt is still a US company.

AK's are built under licence everywhere cheap but decent guns are required.

The soon to be introduced Steyr 5.56 is from AUG of Austria.

On the subject of new guns I say the CS team should go with Lord Headshot's
(from the cs forums) idea of the FiveseveN for the CT's, and a sawn-off
double barreled shotgun (ie., ACME disintergrator gun) for the Terr.'s.

Nope! It's not AUG, the company is called STEYR.

Their most famous weapons are:
- Glock 17, 18 (*Plastic* Pistol ;-)
- Steyr STG 77 (AUG) - coming in different versions/models
- some hunting rifles (can't remember their name)

Ronin features loads of weapons.
Most recognisable perhaps is the H+K MP5 (A5 variant).
(that's submachine gun 1 BTW)
This also features in damn near every film out these days.

It gets worrying when you can tell the difference between an A5 and an A3

Nuke, where 1/2 of the fighting is inside. The only time I worry about it

Besides, you're making the assuption that the other side hasn't replaced
their models with something that is easier to see. I have seen bright red and
bright blue models for each side on some screen shots. :)

The weapon used in Ronin was an HK21 (chain fed) I think. As for the the
rest of the firearms questions.

ohh by Allah this surely is technology of Unbelieving PPL!!
But by Allah! When I play A maP Usually people tend to walk by without
seeing me (( Holy DE!)) so i guess There are only a few usung this models,
BTw I don愒 like to use such a biiig advantage , by Allah!,
惡ause this advantage takes much realism away--like camouflage/ trying to
look like wall etc

U have surely noticed several "Allah!" marks in this short text--
This is only because I must have sinned-- 2 Round witrhout one single
kill--
"Allah must have blinded me" (( one of my Allah-scripts))

Achmed
May Allah look after all fair Players!

I certainly don't. Everything on mine is stock straight from the CS team.
I like Gooseman's statement that he prefer people not add maps to CS that the
CS team hasn't put in. Because of the constant CS development new maps and
map changes get into it and we play with a constant set. I also take that to
pretty much everything on the game. Keeps the sport in it when all things are
equal.

To each his own, I guess.

I get bored with maps after the first six months of playing them and
like variety. I explicitly seek out servers that play non-stock
maps. Most, if not all, of the non-stock maps I've seen around blow
the stock ones away, and not simply because I'm bored off my ass
with the stock ones.

I often emulate realistic Arab terrorists at home. I try to go without a
bath for as long as I can and I'm very paranoid about everything. (Is that
really a mailman or is it the FBI again?) Its sometimes very hard to pretend
I'm living in the desert when I'm actually in northern Canada, but by
wearing shorts and sleeveless t-shirts I can imagine it is very hot. I just
pretend that my blue skin is really night camo paint. My roommates have
drawn the line against boarding up windows, fire pits in the middle of the
living room for cooking, and eating the dog (Us terrorists do not always
have fancy choices for cuisine, especially when the Safe-Way is closed.) I
go on missionary crusades by sneaking into hotels and replacing all the
bibles with the Koran and I stay up all night looking at porn sites so I can
curse the White Infidels and non-believers for their devilish Coca-Cola
inspired ways.

Your holy search may bring you on one day or another to your target:
Sniping with the P90!
(we can already!)
(by the way, it's from Belgium and not from France)
(FN = Fabrique Nationale)
If your noble deeds will provoque pleasure in Allah's eyes, you'll find it
one day.
But don't forget:
Every round you play as a CT will take one day more to reach the target of
your quest!

Sure, also I do that.
I've even perfectionized it with a script.
it selects th AK, it moves the mouse upwards, than fires the full magazine
into the sky, and sends a missionary-chat-message to every player (it
changes often!).
First I had a little jump in it too, but it looked stupid and uncool.

And sometimes (only sometimes!) we also use the AK to shoot the enm.

Hey, thanks to you guys! I've already been on your server and I must admit
it was a good one, technically.
Only a few admins out there who don't overconsume their ressources and cause
lag. You don't and that's good.
Concerning the game:
Hmmm, I was the only one camping near the hostages in siege this evening,
and I was always "last T standing" :o)
Finally I had to change tactics and cmped with the Para in the canalization
:o)

Nooooh! That's uncool. Usually ragheads just keep shooting and blowing each
other up. Get with the program!

Nope. The only time I would do such a thing is right after the bomb has
gone off and since I was guarding the bomb as any good terrorist would do. :P

Shit, I'm about as accurate with my P90 at range as I am with my M4A1
zoomed. For some reason bursting an M4A1 doesn't work as well as a P90. :/

Muchas gracias, Amigo!
The only problem we have right now: Our server is down for the text
time, cause the University did not know about this particular
CS-Server and the traffic it caused (about 70-100GB per month) :)

You can read a (german) explanation on
http://hiwi.sfb504.uni-mannheim.de/fritten/server.php3 !!
