As a big fan of Ghost Recon, and all Tom Clancy games, I'm saddened to
report that the new Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter for PC is utter
rubbish. While visually stunning (most will have to do some serious
upgrading to be able to play the game), game play is extremely
disappointing. No longer can the player save the game at any point he
chooses. Instead the game gets autosaved at random checkpoints, like with a
console game. This useless feature is esp. annoying given the fact that the
game is also a lot harder to play. I'm used to playing Ghost Recon in a
realistic manner, planning my advance and attack carefully, trying to finish
the mission without dying (which was very possible with Ghost Recon 1). In
Advanced Warfighter your little team of only 4 guys is constantly pitted
against impossible odds: armored vehicles, tanks, rooftop snipers, multiple
machine gun nests, RPG's, etc., all placed in such a way to ensure that the
player will die several times, before having "learned" the map in order to
defeat it...not very realistic. And since you can't save your progress
anymore, you're always forced to replay from the last checkpoint. Add to
this that most of the time the enemy will spot you instantly, regardless of
whether you snuck up ever so carefully to some corner, in the dark, peeking
around it and your enemy is 500 feet away; chances are you'll get spotted
immediately and are fired upon.
You also cannot cycle between teammates any longer, so that when you die the
game ends.
I cannot imagine anyone playing this game and enjoying it.

That is *if* they can get it to run consistently on an NVidia chipset GPU.
Lts of problems with crashes over on the UBI forums. I have given up until
the next patch. 60 dollar coaster set until then.

*raises hand*

Did you try multiplayer coop, or domination?

Yep this game smells sooo much of a port from
a console to pc. Tom clancy games (sorry to say
cuz i enjoyed all previous games) will from my side
not be bought anymore unless they are developed
for pc (they can port them to consoles if they like).
I'm pretty sure micro$oft made them an offer they
could not resist (x-box), a prise we pc-players
have to pay.

Uhm GR:AW PC was developed from the ground up for the PC by a totally
different team than the console version. If you play them both you will know
they are very different games. GR:AW on the PC is about as far removed from
a "port" as you can get.

Also... Xbox and PC are BOTH microsoft... but, as mentioned, different dev
teams... and quite different games.

I'm only 5 months late on this post... ;o) but still valid point.

Seems like the 360 version is more featureful, but I have
defeated it and the PC version without cheating. Wasn't that hard at
all as long as you use your melon and don't jump into every
confrontation.
Perhaps the person that started this thread simply sucks at
playing the game? I think so.

Well, for me, the last grunt sim I played was Airborne Ranger, many years
ago, been on a diet of FPS since then! It is taking me a helluva lot of time
to recalibrate my brain from run'n'gun to that of being a mere mortal who
can die after one hit. Wait, I tell a lie- Vietcong on realistic was the
last gruntsim I played- for me GR:AW mirors real life just fucking fine, but
a save whenever you like feature would be great- I work for a living, aint
got the time to sit for ages in front of my PC like when i was a kid! IMHO,
the PhysX card makes a hell of a lot of difference to this game. Any advice
on watercooling the BFG PhysX would be appreciated.
