As a big fan of Ghost Recon, and all Tom Clancy games, I'm saddened to
report that the new Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter for PC is utter
rubbish. While visually stunning (most will have to do some serious
upgrading to be able to play the game), game play is extremely
disappointing. No longer can the player save the game at any point he
chooses. Instead the game gets autosaved at random checkpoints, like with a
console game. This useless feature is esp. annoying given the fact that the
game is also a lot harder to play. I'm used to playing Ghost Recon in a
realistic manner, planning my advance and attack carefully, trying to finish
the mission without dying (which was very possible with Ghost Recon 1). In
Advanced Warfighter your little team of only 4 guys is constantly pitted
against impossible odds: armored vehicles, tanks, rooftop snipers, multiple
machine gun nests, RPG's, etc., all placed in such a way to ensure that the
player will die several times, before having "learned" the map in order to
defeat it...not very realistic. And since you can't save your progress
anymore, you're always forced to replay from the last checkpoint. Add to
this that most of the time the enemy will spot you instantly, regardless of
whether you snuck up ever so carefully to some corner, in the dark, peeking
around it and your enemy is 500 feet away; chances are you'll get spotted
immediately and are fired upon.
You also cannot cycle between teammates any longer, so that when you die the
game ends.
I cannot imagine anyone playing this game and enjoying it.
