The only setup/preferences difference I know of between the two games
is that I changed the difficulty setting from the easiest to the next
easiest.

the automation of returning to base (I think) is when the unit has
completely run its limit of fuel in the first leg of the trip. If,
after attacking OR landing at a base and the unit still has moves
remaining in the first leg, it will continue to blink actively, awaiting
orders. My experience has been that, when attacking or moving and the
unit has used ALL its moves in the first leg, it will return to base
automatically.
I guess you could call it a bug if you were expecting it to return to a
base on the second leg, whether it used all moves in the first leg or
not. That's a valid concern, and I agree with it.

You may be correct, but I'm thinking the automatic return to base
could be a preference one can switch on and off. I'll have to check.
You might not always want a unit to return to the same base.
But the problem I'm most concerned about is ordering a unit to move to
a specified square by either hitting the "G" and selecting a base or
by putting the cursor on the base, right-clicking, and choosing "move
to this square" ( paraphrased ). An update, the last time I fired up
the game, I ran an air unit as far as it could go. The next turn I
ordered it to return to a base and it did so. So there may be
something to a unit having to be at the extreme limit of its first leg
for the goto (automatic or not) to function correctly.

Especially when one orders the unit to return to base. I'm not talking
about an automized response but when the unit is blinking and waiting
for an order.
If you experience this problem again, and can make a saved game file
from which I can reproduce the problem, please send it to me at

Have the file and have mailed it. Thanks for the response.
think, that's a general problem (as I remember, that happened in CIV II, too): a
unit ignores an automatic order if it sees an alien subject. That's sometimes
not so good if there are a lot of units and you have all move separate by hand.

There's the bombing run order which the air units don't seem to support anymore in
version 2.0
Is it just me, or can no one order an air unit to bomb and enemy base, return,
repair, bomb, return, until there are no targets left (which is what I thought the
bombing run order did)?
