Hey all!

Play the following movie in the /movies dir: "networkBackbone.wve"

This is a good (IMHO) mockery of Microsoft. Pretty funny.

Yeah, that was damn funny. I also loved Specimen 46, Vat 7 (You can hear
it in fac30.wav).

Another cool thing to do is to click on some of the audio things all at
the same time. For example, click on waterphone g5.wav, then on voxmar
g4.wav, then wind e4.wav all as fast as you can. You can get some
interesting layers going. Recreate your own Alpha Centauri music.

Actually, I think that's
I don't know but I've been told
Diedre's got a network node.

Really? I can't usually hear it properly, as the pc's in a noisy room.

Ah, well, mine is in a room away from the kids, as they are too eager to
"help." :) Also, the book has the quote "Dierdre's got a network node" so
I assume that's what the video says (p 241, American version, at almost the
last page of the manual) and "I don't know but I've been told..." is the way
I learned the original Army song and variants.

To get a better idea, it's fac8.mp3 in the voices folder. I think it
does say "Dierdre's got" but it's so quick it could be "you've just
got". The American manual is obviously more substantial than ours -
mine is only 201 pages in total. 8-(

I'm at work not home so I don't have the manual in front of me, but the
quote went something like "if you want to drive [the music guy] up the wall,
sing a chorus of 'Dierdre's got a network node'" which is why I assume
that's the lyrics in the song. :)

Are those standard mp3 files or something with a reused extension? I ask
because I don't have a regular mp3 player at the moment.

Heh. I notice most of the people confused about this one have European
addresses--tough to parse the thick American dialect, I guess.

The full text of this (and all the voiceovers) can be found in
BLURBS.TXT (Search for "Network Node").

You're not wrong. Fortunately, the chorus is slightly easier to get
than the lead.
It's one of the best voice-overs in the program. The Cyborg limerick
is also good, but its reading is unfortunate - "glanced at" and
"enhancement" could be made to synch and rhyme, but you'd have to make
the vowel in "at" a weak one - which the voice-over doesn't do. Both
rhyme and meter suffer.
