Hi group,

Has anyone ever seen the following: I was playing as the Univserity,
and had discovered all techs. I built the Voice of Planet, but
afterwards, the Ascent to Transcendence did not appear as an option
for any of my bases, even after the computer announced that all
factions can now start building it. I waited several turns to see if
it would come up, but it didn't. Does anyone have any ideas about
this? Thanks.

It is a secret project. I just completed it. Takes about $24,000

Yes, I know. But it's not showing up on the list of available options
that each base can build. There are other secret projects available
to be selected, but not Ascent to Transcendence.

While I have not gotten to that point in the game yet, I would guess that
you are missing one of the required tech advances. From a quick glance at
the tech tree I would say that you need to research Transcendent Thought
before you can build the Ascent to Trans.

Did you have the option to win the game by Ascent
to Transcendence on? You can disable this option
at the start of a new game. Maybe you disabled this
option by mistake? Did any of the other factions start
to build this project? If they didn't I think the transcendence
option was switched of.

I had something similar with the SkunkWorks. I checked all my bases- none of
them had it, I had the tech advance that allowed it and it didn't show up on any
of my build lists. I don't think it's a special project, so what happened?

Um, no. Transcendent Thought is the "Future Tech" of SMAC, a bunch of
advances that only get you points.

I agree with the others- you probably accidentally turned off win by
Transcendance in the game.

I checked my customized rule setting, and I do have 'Win by
Transcendence' checked. But I think I discovered what is happening
here: Even though I have already discovered up to Transcendent
Thought 10, the program thinks that I did not discover Transcendent
Thought at all. I say this because in the datalinks tech tree,
Transcendent Thought appears in gray (as opposed to white), implying
that I did not yet discover it. That is where I think the bug is.

Mr. Reynolds, what do you think?

I have this problem as well. My victory preferences are set to win any of
the four ways but I cannot seem to win, except, I'm supposing, by
transcendance.

Any Suggestions?

No, that's not what I meant. You DON'T need Transcendent Thought to build
the Ascent, only the Threshold of Transcendence & the Voice of Planet. And
it should appear gray, since you can discover that forever.

I still can't explain why you can't build the ascent, though.

The same happened to me, in exactly the same condition(wonder built, got
every tech...). The AI did not start the project either. it must be a bug
then.

At which difficulty level were you playing? Apparently (I haven't played
enough to verify this), at lower difficulty levels, prototypes aren't an
issue---every unit you make of the same configuration costs the same,
whether it's first or 534th. On those levels, then, skunkworks doesn't
show up in the production list (which is fine by me -- the thing gets too
big by the end of the game anyway).

Now, if we could just get the obnoxious prototype warning to stop showing
up in the unit design window on those difficulty levels, we'd be fine.

The prerequisite for "Ascent to Transcendence" is "Threshold of
Transcendence", (not "Transcendent Thought"). It is correct that
Transcendent Thought always appears greyed, since you can always
discover it again.

Always when this has come up before, the problem has been that the
person didn't have the victory condition checked.

I checked the code, and the requirements for Ascent to Transcendence
being considered "available" are:

(1) It isn't the demo version
(2) Voice of Planet has been completed by somebody
(3) Win-by-Transcendence is enabled in custom rules.
(4) "No Secret Projects Allowed" is not checked in scenario custom
rules.
(5) The prerequisite technology (Threshold of Transcendence) has been
discovered.

Hope this helps!

Nope. My finace was playing along nicely, built Voice of Planet, yet
no "Ascent to Transcendence" became available in any of her bases.
The list of Projects didn't show anyone else building it either. All
of the things mentioned in your list are set 'correctly'.

Let's pin this sucker down before v3.0 comes out, dangit.

I was playing a game at "Citzen" level, because I wanted to see the
pretty movie for the higher level secret project, and built VoP, but
never had the ability to build AoT.

May the One shine on us all, even if we wanted to see the pretty
pictures.

A few days ago I met the same bug. All projects completed, but transcend was
not possible. If needed I can send a save file. Only thing changed in the
custom rules is that I have disabled blind research. Later I even checked
with the first save file of that game, with cheating and giving the
technology and creating Voice of Planet much earlier in the game, it also
did not work. So probably some options changed during the game?

Wim.

Same holds true for me, Brian. I have all the requirements in your
list, yet the program does not let me build the Ascent. Also, the
program does not give me the option for economic victory under the HQ
menu, even when I have the appropriate tech and settings for it.

Please investigate this. I feel that until these bugs are fixed,
there is almost no point in my playing the game.
