"My brain hurts!"- From MPFC
Rachel Green AKA A.Weirdo
Another party with high adult potential is:
Fight, Thief, White and Black Mage. The thief is only good when he grows up.
A lean, mean, final fantasy machine is:
Fight, Fight, Fight, and Black Mage! Kick some Chaos!
For the easiest run through the game, I like Fighter, Red
Mage, White Mage, Black Mage or Fighter, Blackbelt, White Mage, Black
Mage. The most interesting combinations, though:
Blackbelt, Thief, 2 Red Mages - Still allows a range of
abilities at higher level, but weak at the beginning.
4 Red Mages - These guys are just cool.
2 Red Mages, White Mage, Black Mage - Nice for the
spellthrowing abilities.
4 Fighters - A lot harder to get through the game with than
you'd think.
And of course there's the ultimate challenge:
4 White Mages - Go through the game if you can. Skip the
class change. Try to beat Chaos. Muahahaha...

I've always found two fighters, a white mage, and a black mage very
effective. The two fighters can keep the party together while the wizards
are stil weak in the beginning. Later, the wizards' strong magic keeps the
fighters going.
It all depends on what kind of player you are, though.

The generally accepted combo is Fighter, B.Belt, W.Mage, B.Mage, but I
made it through fine with Fighter, B.Belt, W.Mage, R.Mage.

4 Fighters is hard?! It was the easiest way to get through the
game...
I tried the whole "mage" thing, but they (at lowlevels), can cast ONE
WHOLE SPELL and then they're useless. Or they migth cast like 3
first, a couple second...maybe a third... the net result is sucky
characters. Plus fighting all those encounters just to save up enough
money for a spell was pretty annoying, too.
My 4 Fighters beat the game rather easily...the last battle was very
difficult though. Up until then it wasn't too hard at all...

If you want a lot of magic power:
Fighter, Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage.
If you want a somewhat balanced team:
Fighter, Thief, Black Belt, Red Mage.
If you want two fighters and two spellcasters, either:
Fighter, Thief, White Mage, Black Mage, or
Fighter, Black Belt, White Mage, Black Mage.
Those are the parties I usually use, and have been rather successful with.
**WARNING!** Do **NOT** start the game without either a Red or White Mage
in your party. Without either character, when you get to the point in the
game where you descend into the final stage, the only way back out is to
use the EXIT spell. Without a character knowing the EXIT spell, you are
stuck down there forever!
Also, do **NOT** start a party that doesn't have a Fighter, or doesn't
have a Fighter at the topmost rank of your party. The topmost rank of the
party in any FF game takes more punishment than those at the bottom, so
they have to have the best defense. At the beginning of the game, only the
Fighter has strong enough defense to last a few battles. Later on, you
might be able to put a Ninja at the front of your party, but not now.

For one thing, the game is UTTERLY BORING (IMO) without mages...
2 RM, 1 WM, 1 BM...that rules...but 4 BMs are even better...

That's probably my best party, too. However, I found that replacing the
second fighter with a Black Belt helps cut down on weapon costs. Once
you get to elfland, and he's about level 10 or more, he's really more
effective without a weapon, so you don't have to buy any for him. Of
course, now that we've all beaten it 9 zillion times, the fun in picking
a party is in picking a strange one, not in min/maxing. Has anyone here
beaten the game with 4 Ninjas or 4 White Wizards?

A Black Mage can use warp to get out of there, I think, because I remembered
my White Mage died on me, so I went all the way back to the top level, casted
warp and I was out.

Of course, both of these suggestions can be ignored for the sake of a greater challenge.

I usually go with Fighter, Black Belt, White Mage, and Black Mage.
1. Fighter provides lots of muscle. As a Knight, equipped with the
Excalibur and Fast casted on him he can deal 8 hits or so to the last boss
in one shot.
2. Black Belt becomes a Ninja when he grows up. So long as you give him NO
weapon whatsoever, he'll be doing similar damage to the Fighter.
3. White Mages are the only real way to heal, otherwise you'll need to
manually buy 99 potions, and there is NO way to ressurect someone (unless
you bring a Red Mage, which can only learn LIFE, and not LIF2). What's
more, White Mages can cast Exit, one of the most useful spells (using it
is the only way you can leave and re-enter the last level).
4. Black Mages are great for sheer offence. Spells that attack everyone
become an absolute necessity later on in the game, and WARP can be useful
for navigating lengthy parts of dungeons. Furthermore, when you get to the
last boss and start pummeling him with NUKE, he's as good as defeated.
Good luck,
Dan.

I've beaten it with 4 White *Mages*. That party personally
financed every alchemist on the planet buying Cure Potions.
Incidentally, someone said 4 Fighters was *easy*? No
way... you have the damage, but you can't heal or revive, and you run
out of money for equipment. Only way to make this effective is to
spend a lot of time levelling up, and if you do that, almost any party
can be considered easy.
I think my favorite party right now is the 4 Red Mages. I
still have to try 4 Thieves though.
The group I found to be the easiest was 2 Fighters, a Black Belt, and a
White Mage.

I didn't find this group very challenging, but I really like fighting
characters. The only problems with them are it takes a ton of $$$ to
outfit them and they use a ton of heal potions. :-)~
Try r.mage, w.mage and two black belts. Make sure the Red Mage specializes in
Black Magic. The one downside to this party that I've found is that they tend
to start slowly.
Bluehawk

The group that I've always used...the most balanced is : Fighter,
BB, WM, BM.....but I've also tried F,T,WM,BM ; F,F,WM,RM
They all work well....
