But what about FF2? I used to _always_ name Yang "Yak" ( don't ask why)
and Edward "Wuss" (Edward falls, Cecil yells "Wuss!") I would name Cecil
"jak" or "jakal" and Kain "Dave" (one of my friends that I borrow the
game from). Everyone else I would leave alone, except once I named
Tellah "Fish!" and I named Palom & Porom "Cecil" and "Rosa". I'm a
goober.

2nd time around, I named everyone with the name w/ same pronounciation (okay,
I stretched it a little) as Chris. Chris, chrys, kris, cris, khris etc.etc.
(yes, that got to be confusing.)
With FF6, I gave them cute cute names with -chan and -kun attached. (Tina =
Tii-chan, Edgar = Et-kun, Mash = Maa-kun etc. Gau is named Chibisuke,
however... and Shadow is Shadow written in hiragana ^_^)

rounds on some fighting game, I can easily overcome some part of a rpg that

Some of these were used in an 'experimental' game I played through once with
standard capitalization ('Terra' instead of 'TERRA'), and were really just
for that purpose; Gail, Reed, and Angel were some of them. I always like to
play through a Square game with the original names the first time, of course,
but there are a few I'll never go back to. In Chrono Trigger, I'll never
play as 'Lucca' and 'Marle' again after using 'Julia' and 'Angel' for so
long! Changing Frog's name, OTOH, has never been a great success.

I have always hated how in FF3 they always capitalized the names. It
looks stupid to see someone say, "Hey, aren't you that thief LOCKE?" So
I always lowercase them. Could anyone out here resist the urge to name
Robo R26-Y? (at least I think that's his #)BTW, I think i've added a few

Usually, I name everyone the same, the first time that I play the game.
After I have beat it once, then I name the main charactor me. The
charactors that usully remind me of someone that I know I name them that
person. I also usualy name the charactor that the main charactor likes
in the game my girlfriend.

while turin is turin son of hurin, from tolkein unfinished tales
in the days of tuor and gondolin and morgoth
when that was the case, i would use tolkein names, lke in ff2, i would shorten
gandalf for tellah, or use frodo or bilbo for theives since they play the part
of burglars

Actually, most of my main characters get named Em(e)rald: SoM's
hero, Cecil, the angel from Soul Blazer... it helps if they wield
a katana, though (that's why Cyan got "Emrald").

I like to name the main character after me, and the main character's girlfriend after my
girlfriend. I name everyone else after what friend of mine they are most like. If the
main character is a girl I usually name her after my sister, name the coolest other male
character after me, and his girlfriend after my girlfriend. If I know a character's
going to die later in the game, I keep their given name.
