I wasn't sure what you were talking about so I went and had a look-see...
Good question. I don't what the thing is. Perhaps it's not actually a
comet at all behind the logo, but moreover the black materia, and the
little sphere is the white materia? Who knows. Could be a moon or some
small or distant planet. Doesn't look like a ®, or a registered trademark
symbol.

Well it wouldnt make much sense for it to be the black materia. Why would
that be flying in space with the comet (I call it a comet because thats
what it looks like on the logo) when Sephiroth has it? I suppose it COULD
be the earth...but that would mean that the comet is way off track and
going completely around earth...

someone had an idea on this awhile back, he thought that the dot WAS the
comet,
it works out like this:
The large Orb is the Earth,
The Fire is the Holy/Lifestream,
The "dot" is the comet being pushed from the Earth.

IIRC, the logo was bluegreen and white. The meteor was red. And the
story through the first part of the game is about the life being
sucked out of the planet. The logo shows that perfectly. It's
symbolic.

The colors may not be right, but the thing itself looks alot like the
meteor, and besides, the mako wasnt being sucked into space, it was being
sucked into the reactors. And the way its flying at an angle, with the tail
trailing off in a northeast direction would make me assume its the meteor.

jenova cells. Damn forgot the mother's name already... she appears in
the FMV with Vincent when he was still a Turk. She was married to

main part of her essence and strength was reborn in Sephiroth. Also,
her power did not merely reside in brute strength. Finally, I dont
really think she was that weak, I died several times throughout the game
against her various forms. And although easy, Jenova Synthesis did do
3400 with a critcal hit, and 6000 with Ultima. But yes, she's isnt as
strong in the game as shes made out to be.

My construction of things...
Jenova gets wasted long time ago.
few decades ago... it is found.
Scientists realize the cells are still alive and after testing they
find it has profound effects on human genetics...
They begin trying to bring it back to life.
Hojo and Lucresia work together and get close with Vincent not
interfering. Hojo knocks her up... and tells her about the cells and
asks her to volunteer the child prenatal... she somehow agrees.
A Few jenova-like off shoots are produced one is put in the Nibelheim
reactor as it is probably around this time they figure out materia -if
not a little before... but here is one of the first (was it the actual
first I forget).
Scientists begin experiments on a grander scale with j.cells and man
ending in the tubes at N's reactor. -and probably similar elsewhere I
forget have to play through again... with I had that record option
from tactics right about now...
Sephi is borne... *add in other happenings like lucresia running
off/faking her death forget when exactly that happened. *sigh**
he's raised by someone... and X number of years later cloud and the
other young'uns of the cast are borne do their various things etc...
like Barrett and Dyne's stuff happening.
Cloud Leaves to become a member of Soldier, and failing ends up as
just an enlisted. Begins Idolizing Sephi since he is so all that.
Cloud Sephi and Zack get to Nibelheim. Stuff happens... Sephi finds
out about his past. Snaps. Kills Tifa's dad... nearly kills her...
tries to kill Cloud and Cloud tosses him over the chasm. *theory*
killing the original Sephi which was starting to get annoying to
Shinra anyway.
Zack and Cloud get 'tubed at the mansion for a few months is my guess.
Meanwhile *theory* The Karate Master takes Tifa to Midgar. And she
gets a new life there. Back to the action. Zack breaks them out. and
tries to get him and cloud back to Midgar. Many forms of travel later,
with many stories of the past... like Zack and Aeris -who he seems to
have only seen as a temporary thing -the bastard... too bad she didn't
find that out grrr- they are almost back when Zack has to fight and
gets killed. Cloud is left for dead, but comes too enough to get the
sword from Zack so he can check him... only to see he's too late...
she shambles over to Midgar with the new cells that -IIRC- injected
during his tube time *they say they were trying to make sephi
clones... or at least people as strong as sephi... probably cause
sephi WAS dead.*
Cloud arrives on that train... and somehow -maybe he called ahead from
just inside midgar- Tifa meets him at the gate... and starts the
bs-to-cloud episode which won't get fixed till much later.
*theory* They scrap making supermen and just try to clone sephi as
they've probably found the corpse -could have happened earlier to give
age time... of course these are jenova cells so chronological age
could be meaningless... cells see cells in certain stage of life...
and go from there... ignoring earlier developmental stages which would
point to why the Sephiclone which kills Rufus' dad seems so out of it
most of the time till later when the cells work on upgrading his brain
to where it last was...
Chase to hunt him down begins... game happens...
Anyone wanna do a better chonology minus anything but hard -IE in game
only- facts? I had to use a theory or two to explain like why they'd
be trying to clone him... and maybe hope he was dumb... hence the
mindless killing machine which when it first saw cloud was like "Who
are you?" but later -as he learned who he "was" and the j.cells
reformed his mind- he suddenly knew all about cloud...
Wow... my fingewrs hurt... that's it from me for the day...
Of course this is just my take. and I'm probably wrong.
Felt I might as well change the title since it no longer reflected
anyway.
