Till then... BT's stop in Houston last night (this morning ^_^):
Picked up Kai-How at 11:10 PM, went to House of Pies (affectionately known
at Rice as the House of Guys ^_^). Ate and talked a lot, mostly about
politics and so forth. Got gas and earplugs afterwards, and headed for the
Rave. Kai-How napped a bit in the car.
Got to the rave around 1:20 AM...
The DJ in the main room before BT (dude with a cowboy hat) played an
awesome mix of stuff including recent trance, and oldschool stuff like
Underworld (first album!). Great tunes. And this girl with a weird hairdo
and gold painted skin and gold bikini was dancing with two glowsticks on
long cords, really really well. Bending over really far, never stopping the
flow of the sticks. A guy joined her later, and they danced together, the
four sticks flying around themselves. They hugged afterwards. Awww. ^_^
Kai-How and I checked out the side room, where some Garage-y stuff was
being played. Our 15 NRR eargunk came in handy, while standing 1 foot away
from the massive speaker array. Got to watch the DJ up close crossfading
and cueing records.
Went back to the main room, tried to get close to the cowboy DJ guy since
the DJ area is down low level with the dance floor, and impossible to see
from far away, but the front area was already packed. We waited for about
20 to 30 minutes until... BT started at ~ 2:30
Flaming June (piano intro)
Love Peace + Grease (part of it)
Mercury and Solace
Promise? Something? Er... American album track
Calling Your Name
Blue Skies (nice piano)
Remember (er.. Sasha's mix, maybe? nice piano again)
Love Peace + Grease (full)
Flaming June (full)
Godspeed (more nice piano)
-- (BT left the stage, came back after people chanted B! T! awhile)
Dreaming (what mix? some nice piano)
BT ended at ~ 3:45. We'd left the up-front area after Remember, and watched
BT from a distance (he was up higher on the stage than the DJ pit, whackin'
at the synths - at times he'd play actual piano on top of the songs, but
usually just added acid lines live, occasionally did the bassline, and
showed the audience by tilting the keyboard up. Mostly, though, he'd play,
jump around to every beat, stick his hand in the air, pointing up with his
index finger, and yelling for the crowd to yell as well. He'd also treat
the synths quite roughly at times, tilting them upwards while belting out a
screeching acid squelch, then dropping the synth down as it ended). You
could also see the light show a lot better from further back, though you
couldn't see BT's facial expression so well. Then again, with tons of tall
people in the crowd, up close, half the time you couldn't there, either.
^_^
The main reason I'd left was that the girl in front of me kept bouncing up
and down, not a prob in itself though she kept bumping her ass against me,
and occasionally stepping on my toes (good ol' work boots o' mine made that
a non-issue). But anyway, the prob was that she was flinging her hand up
and down in the air over her head, and coming dangerously close to poking
my eye out with her fingernails. ^_^ Several other girls were bumping all
over me at times as they danced. I shoulda sued for all the
breast-ass-cock-touching that went on, accidentally. ^_^ No offense, but if
they wanted to show off by dancing all over the place, they coulda gone
back into the area where people were actually dancing, instead of packed in
tight like sardines. Ah well.
Anyway, afterwards, Kai-How and I listened to the next DJ awhile, but the
music was pretty boring, so we checked out the other room again. Some
really loud, fast paced, hardcore stuff going on, but most people were on
the floor in there. As they were along the sides of the main ballroom, at
all times. Less dancers, despite the faster pace of the music. Interesting.
So, we left at around 4 AM. They wouldn't let you leave without ID, good
thing Kai-How brought his. Tons of teens were being turned back. WTF, do
they round up all the people who didn't bring IDs, even if they don't look
anywhere near 16 years old (the min limit)?
Played some Movement in Still Life for Kai-How, he wanted to find out which
tracks were which. Dropped him at home, talked a bit in his driveway about
upcoming stuff and yada yada.
I hit the highway... As I drove home, the moon was orange and setting, and
ominous black clouds would drift in front of it, obscuring it partially. As
I turned onto Chew road near the house at 5 AM, I saw Orion to the east for
the first time since spring. Winter is coming. Cassiopeia was bright to the
northeast, above, too. And the moon had set. As I fell asleep after 6, the
sun was rising.

Man, you've been writing way too long. Even your concert reviews sound
poetic.
